I would buy a jacket for those "just in case" times. Do you drive a car, or will you be using public transportation? I think this makes a world of difference. If you have your own car, and can warm it up, then I wouldn't necessarily dress her in the jacket as she is in her car seat. (its actually proven to be safer, the less bundled they are in their carseats). But I would always bring the jacket along, just in case. Make sure you have a hat and mittens, too. I live in MN (where its similar whether to NYC), and always had a coat in the car for my daughter, but mostly used a really warm blanket to cover her up while she was in the infant seat, going to and from the car. Just make sure she is completely covered with the blanket. And only if you're only going to be outside for a few minutes (1-2). As far as what kind of coat? I would look for at least one of those fleece pull overs or zip ups. Just make sure you're bringing along extra clothes or blankets - just in case! I have always heard that adding layers to children is not necessarily what you should do. If you are comfortable, temperature-wise, chances are, your child is comfortable, too.

I have a 5 month old son and we live in New England. When I'm unsure of how to dress him (we have an adorable winter bundler for him but it's not cold enough for that yet), I usually dress him in layers. I'll put him in a onesie (either short of long sleeved) and then put a fleece jacket over him and a hat (don't forget the hat!). I carry him in an adjustable pouch so I can tell when he starts to feel warm. Then I can easily shed the layers. I found that having a jacket or two, or even just a sweatshirt, really helps when I'm unsure of what to put on him. Layering is the best way!

I live in Wisconsin, and our weather is similar. I put my son in a little t-shirt, and a long sleeve shirt, and a jacket. OR a t-shirt and sweater, and a jacket. Always a jacket. If they're too warm you'll be able to tell. Bundle that little cutie up!
Just get a winter jacket. Figure what you would wear, plus one layer. So if you ahve on a tshirt and a sweater, make sure she has on AT LEAST that much.

She needs a jacket, and a hat. I'm sure she has blankets also right? so remember to uncover her when you go inside, keep in eye on the hat for it can slide down her face in cover up her nose. You want her to be warm, but comfortable at the same time so don't over do it. If you have a big snugged blanket then get a thin but isolated jacket instead of a thick one. It also depends on how often you willl be outside, what type of transportation you use etc.. Use your common sense and motherly instincts you wil be fine.

I usually dress my 2 small ones (19 mths old & 5 wk old) in a onesie then a shirt and some pants with a sweater. It doesn't get that cold her in Houston but I do put their jackets on when its chilly. U might wanna dress her like that and buy a jacket babies get sick fast. Macy's and Gymboree have good jackets. U want one that keeps her warm with a hoodie. Good Luck!

I have a bunting outfit I use. Its acuallty two pieces and is a really warm thick fleece. The first piece is like a sleeper with a hood and the arms have little covers so you can cover the had. The second is like an overall sack. and this has a little slit in the bottom so you can still buckle baby properly in the car seat. the top of the overall sack has buttons and straps so that way it contects . I also got a car seat cover similar to the one I have attached.

I live in NJ and have 5 mo old. I bought her a fall jacket and have yet to use it because I've been sticking with a lot of these types of things:
fleece items especially jacket and pants sets
Carter's "out and about prams"
hooded sweaters
sweat suit sets
cuddlesuits (this is like a snowsuit)
lots of hats (my daughter hates all hats except those by American Apparel)
mittens
slipper shoes or leather shoes because knitted booties have holes that let the cold in
I also LOVE the jj Cole bundle me, it is like a big sac blanket that goes in your travel seat or stroller and wraps your baby in warmth without her being swaddled and restrained. It is so soft and they are reasonably priced. I really like it because unlike putting a blanket on her you dont have to worry about it falling off and getting dirty. Stay warm!

for a baby that young its good to buy the all in one jackets that cover the whole body. and make sure she always has a hat on under 60 degrees until she is about 8 months. if you dont get an all in one coat always blanket her and cover her hands and head..make sure her neck is not exposed to cold air..try to keep her face warm also hope this helps.. here is a link to a jacket im getting for my daughter.. its all in one very affordable and cute!

Dress her as you dress yourself. I wouldn't put no wool on her it's itchy. Make sure she has a onsie on and get her a jacket. Any type of jacket will do...also put a hood or hat on her especially if it is windy! Good luck and keep warm!
