Im trying to save a lot of pics in case my computer crashes. ( like 1000's) Which is better, a usb thing or a dvd? This would be for long term and stored away. Any tips welcome.

I would say its best to put photos on a DVD.That's how i do it.If any of your computer things crash or get corrupt then you lost your photos.DVD you'll always have and can view on your TV if you like.

Get an external usb harddrive, or even better add a second harddrive inside your pc. Then put copies of anything you need on to that.

I have my file system organised so that everything important that I don't want to lose is inside the My Documents folder (Documents in Vista). I then have this mirrored onto a second harddrive in my desktop. If anything ever happens to either of the disks all I need to do is replace the disk, I still have a copy of my stuff stored. Worst case scenario I will need to reinstall Windows to a new disk if it were my primary disk to fail.

I started doing this after I lost everything, music, documents, photos, movies when my only drive self destructed...

Haven't had a problem since, because I've had a bad experience in the past, just to keep me happy I also have a portable USB harddisk which I back everything up to about once a month. I keep this hidden, so if someone steals my desktop and laptop I still have my data.
