Have you noticed that McDonald's now adds an Eat In or a Take Out tax to the total charge on your receipt?

Hmmm... so they make their food cost what it has for a long time and then add a tax so you are still paying more but the prices don't look bad?

Are other fast food places doing this too?

Hey!! Don't blame McDonalds for the Eat In or Eat Out tax. Just look to your favorite legislators who have to find another source of revenue to cover their frivilous spending. If you have a bone to pick, pick it with them!!. Put the blame where it belongs, Fix the cause of the problem!!

If you eat in, it says "Eat In Tax."
If you take it to go, it says "Take Out Tax."
It's a way of showing for the cashier/kitchen on the receipt whether you need your food bagged or on a tray.
ie it's not an "extra" tax, it's the regular sales tax you pay no matter what.

I don't know what that guy who says there is no tax on food is thinking. There is tax on EVERYTHING. If you buy a head of lettuce from the grocery store, there is a tax.

I have always know McDonald's adds tax to their food, they just never showed it before.

Legally there are no sales tax on food items, however there are circumstances where you will be taxed on food.

If the food is prepared for you i.e. McD's, Burger King, Subway, the Deli in the grocery store, they can charge you the going sales tax rate for your state.

They only tax if you are eating in their restaurant. That is true most places.
