I saw on the news that some school officials in Oregon are having an issue with Thanksgiving because they think it's insensitive to flaunt this holiday in front of Native Americans since we really stole their land. Agree? Disagree? Why?

- I don't think that celebrating Thanksgiving is wrong or insensitive. I'm just telling what I heard on the news and trying to get peoples' opinions.

Oh my God, political correctness is going to kill this nation.

The Indians can get over it. I mean, seriously.

I disagree. Thanksgiving is a remembrance of when the pilgrims sat with the Native Americans and had dinner together. The pilgrims thanked them for helping them learn to work the land and survive. It wasn't until the white man started thinking he was better than the Native American, who originally taught him to survive, that the problems occurred.

I disagree. That happened years ago, and anyway, the land is ours now. Whether we stole it or won it in battle, it is ours. Sounds mean and cruel I know, but do we have to give up all our traditions and beliefs because they might offend someone. We celebrated Thanksgiving WITH the Indians if I remember right. This year Lowe's will not call their Christmas trees, Christmas trees. They want to call them family trees. In Australia Santa will be banned from saying "ho ho ho" because it might offend the hos. Good God...where does it end.

Turkey day hasn't got much to do with pilgrims or natives It is about the end of the harvest season, pigging out on foods that wouldn't be had for another year before refrigeration.
Now it is just a day to eat with family and get ready for Christmas. A four day weekend for many of us and the start of Christmas shopping season.

No, I don't.
I DO think it's insensitive to continue to keep Native Americans trapped in squalor on small patches of useless land all over the country in the only active practice of Apartheid in the developed world.

People need to get a life. Let's just all become Jehovah's Witnesses so we don't have to worry about anyone getting their panties in a bunch over a holiday. We can all just sit around and do nothing every day.

I'm Native American and I love Thanksgiving. So what if some natives back then were prissy. We should celebrate the ones willing to be human enough to welcome the newcomers

I do agree somewhat, but what Thanksgiving REALLY is about is not about the genocide of the Native Americans. Thanksgiving is about being thankful for what we have, our families, our friends, our livelihood.
