Certainly not, since "global warming" refers to the Earth, and Comet Holmes is not the Earth. It also was NOT due to proximity to the Sun, as a couple of people said. Comet Holmes was closest to the Sun in early May, and was far away from the Sun on October 23 when the outburst occurred. This is the second such outburst recorded for this comet; the first was in November 1892. Scientists at that time were unable to determine the cause of the outburst; maybe they'll do better this time.

The comet did not actually become larger. The corona around the inner mass of the comet expanded. As a comets orbit reaches close proximity to the sun, the icy surface begins to vaporize, forming a envelope of gas and ice particles. The closer that the comet gets, the more the cloud of particles expands, making it seem to grow in size. Light from the sun reflects off of the ice particles to cause an illuminated fireball effect. I hope that this is useful and that I have answered your question properly.

I think comets get bigger when they get close to the Sun.

Not at all. Probably one or more chunks of the comet broke off & began out-gassing rapidly, creating more particles for the sun to reflect off of.

Of course it did! Just like the global warming that is going on right now on Mars. It's the damn SUV's!
Those two little rovers we have on Mars is the cause of the Martian global warming. It has nothing to do with the increased output of the Sun recently.

Global: refers to planet earth. A comet is not attached to planet earth, so, uh, no.

Hey why not. Everything else is caused by global warming.
My car won't start, sure is cold today, must be global warming.
