Myself and my partner have been renting a first floor, 1 bed flat since september and all is going brilliantly apart from the fact that the flat is not double glazed and there is even a window missing from the bathroom. As you can imagine, in the cold winter nights we are absolutley frozen to the bone, even if we put the heating on it just goes straight out the window. I really dont want to move again as its really conveniant for work and close to our parents houses, also we just havnt the time to look for another place. So my question is, what obligations does my landlord have towards the upkeep of the flat? I mean, we have always paid the rent on time and we are generally good tennats. Is it her responsibility to maintain it? because at the minute it's really inhospitible, we've been forced to spend the nights at my moms house. To me that seems wrong because we pay our rent and should be able to live there comfortably? Opinions please?

Of course the landlord should repair the broken window in the bathroom. However, in the interim, have you considered putting plastic sheeting over the window to keep some of the heat in ? That would make the MOST sense, rather than ignoring the situation and moving to your mother's place.

I'm not sure what you mean by double glazed, but a broken window needs to be repaired not only to keep out the cold, but to keep anyone from entering your home through that window. I wouldn't spend the night away with an open window that anyone could climb through. I'd have the window repaired. It really won't be that costly and hope your landlord will reimburse you.
