What word do you use to descrip the room you make pee in? I say restroom not sure why?

bathroom or restroom, depending on the context sometimes. sometimes i'll say restroom if im in a more formal setting. sometimes not though, if i remember to, b/c it seems more polite than bathroom for some reason.
and i would be mad at myself if i ever called it the john lolz.
