memory is fast, storage is cheap but slow, an external drive wil be much slower than a USB memory stick.. depends what you want to do - games and video - RAM, masses of photos and big files - external drive but split $100 and spend 50 on each , why not

As cheap as they are these days, why not both.

I just got a Hitachi 500gig external and 500 megs of added ram for under 175 bucks. Look for sales at places like best buy.

Hard drive = storage space or disc space.
Memory or Ram = Speed
so do you want more storage space for your files or do you want your computer to download faster etc.

i dont thiknkl you specify, your problem,

if you computer's slow then get more memory(ram)

if what you need is more space, then buy an external drive,

if what you wanna do is just migrate data, well i recomend you to go to megaupload.com you can storage up to 50 gb, thats what im doing cause im getting my laptop fixed, i needed to backup alot of data, and my dvd drive's not working so i couldnt burn dvd's

You should only buy another disk if you are running out of disk space.
