I agree with crappief. No matter what your child is going to get made fun of, its life. I was named Kimberly. This was when full house and the power rangers where big. Kimmy the next door neighboor no one liked. Kimberly the Pink Power Ranger. I got it all. But Gaylord is a little more out there. If you feel the need to name him that I would say a middle name. But it might also work for him, I went to school with a guy named Thuddy. He was the most well liked guy in school. He did go by Thud. He is your child and its your choice. But please don't get upset with him if he goes by his middle name.

P.S. Don't worry about what other people are saying, You could name your son Josh, James or Kevin and he'd get made fun of. He is your son. He might be mad at you for naming him Gaylord or he might be happy that he has a different name.

Kids will make fun of kids no matter what their name is. If you want to name your son Gaylord, go ahead. It really won't stop kids from picking on him. If he has a great personality, kids won't care what his name is. They'll like him for who he is.

BTW, I had a friend named Shooshoo. Really! No one made fun of her because she was really a good person. Bullies did make fun of her, but they aren't worth the time to worry over, so she would ignore them.

Personally I like to wait until the child is born and then look at them. A name comes to me once I see their face, body and personality. Gaylord means "high spirited".(see link below). If your newborn son appears to be a high spirited kid, then maybe the name fits!

Maybe you could pick 2 -3 possible names (Gaylord being one of them) and then wait to see what name fits your new son?

As a former veteran substitute teacher, let me tell you that kids CAN be cruel. Long names, funny names, suggestive names WILL be shortened or abused.

Best ticket? Gaylord as a MIDDLE name...YES!

Gaylord as a FIRST name? NO! NO! NO!

Put it this way...one of the best examples on this topic is Jonny Cash's song: A Boy Named Sue! Get it and listen to that!

Kids are very very cruel these days, even more cruel than what they were when we were in school. I definately think that he would get made fun of but if its a family name or a name that means something to you then name him what you want, and maybe give him a middle name that he can go by as well. Kids made fun of me when we were little and would say "Oh you have a boys name" so I started going by my first and middle name and from then on the kids stopped. I dont know thats my advice hope it helped!

Kids will make fun of anybody, no matter what but yes, I think Gaylord will be singled out especially.

It's very possible. Are any of the other babies around there being named anything like this? A child's name can affect them enormously as they grow up. Be very careful what you pick. Pick a good name that will sound good on a business letterhead.I had a friend that wanted to name her baby, boy or girl, Pebbles or Bam-Bam. I was so glad she changed her mind. Can't you imagine the president of a bank being called Bam-Bam? Or even the President of the United States. These are always a possibility of a future job!

.....Oh dear. How did that name even work its way into the system? I think your kid would be scarred for a pretty long time if you named him Gaylord. If you want to go for something regal and distinguished, I would go for Edward, Bradley, Peter, Phillip, Charles, James, etc. ^_^
