Alice's Restaurant Massacree-Revisited

I am sure you all recall the Alice's Restaurant Massacree. I was up here in Stockbridge about that time. (2) "And what time would that have been?" you ask. Well at Thanksgiving time of course. Surely you remember. I thought that Officer Obie had (1) bats in the belfry when he started taking plaster tire tracks, foot prints, and dog smelling prints, not to mention the twenty-seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining how each one was to be used as evidence against them litterbugs. If I had been one of them, I would been yelling (3) "Let me outta here!!! Let me outta here!!!" when they had me in the squad care at the Scene of the Crime.

When I told her the story about the Alice's Restaurant Massacree, (9) Mrs. Peacock shook her head in disgust. She knew Obie when he was just a little boy, and cannot believe he spent all that money on a littering citatation. I would have her tell you herself but (6) she was here one minute and gone the next. For an eighty year old woman, she sure gets around. Anyway, what she said was (8) "OMG!! That bagpiper is psychotic." Well I never knew Officer Obie played the bagpipes or that Mrs. Peacock knew webspeak, but that's what she said. Oh, you have chatted with her on-line. (4) Uh, huh...Very interesting...I didn't realize you two were acquainted. Then you probably already know how she feels about Officer Obie.

Anyway, they took so many plaster casts that day it was hilarious. There were some deer prints near where I was standing and I was tempted to ask Officer Obie (5) "Hey, Columbo. What d'ya make of THESE prints/" But I didn't want to wind up in the back seat of the squad car with Arlo and his friends.

Although the Alice's Restaurant Massacree is not mystery (as we know it turned out to be a typical case of American
blind justice), it is still a mystery to me how, even today, you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant (Exceptin' Alice, of course.)
