an intranet commonly runs within a small or large business with no access to or from an outside connection.

this will host websites and company emails that are used for contacting other departments within the conpany.

internet is partly the same but is outside the company and can be accessed by anybody.

you can also get an extranet which is a very large network that will connect companies networks together. this is commonly used for checking stock levels and such with another part of the company within a different city.

The internet is what you are use to. It goes all over the world. The intranet is the same software used (browser and e-mails) within an organization or company where the rest of the world does not see that information.

Internet is the outer internet, like what we're on now. You're not restricted to a certain community or group of people.
The Intranet is an inner computer network- usually at a company or school- that has all the company's information on it.
as www.dictionary.com says, "Intranet- a computer network with restricted access, as within a company, that uses software and protocols developed for the Internet. "

It's based on Latin words. Inter = "between or among" and intra = "within." So the Internet is a broader communication network that's used among just about everyone. An intranet is something within a company or other smaller group. For instance, a company's intranet is the network available only to employees of that company, not the public at large.
