the consitution that now there is such a stigma attached to having a gun? I own two guns and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I have two kids who have been taught from birth about guns. But it seems like people really have an issue about people owning and carrying guns.I just have to point out it is our constitutional right to own a gun. I believe that guns in the hands of the right people of course are safe. I believe we have a right to protect our families at any and all costs and I know that I will be the first to shoot if it ever came down to my life or a criminals. What is your opinion about guns? Have you been raised with guns and now own guns yourself? Do you support people that choose to own a gun (such as responsible gun owners)? I think that education is the key to lowering the accidental shootings of children with their families guns.

Well said. Gun ownership is a constitutional right. To all the thumb-sucking liberals out there...Just remember that police and other public defense agencies are strictly reactive and not pro-active entities. They are unable to prevent the acts of criminals. In states where people are allowed to carry or keep weapons in their homes crime rates are lowest. Today's society is overrun with scurrilous types aimed at ill-gotten gains. Add in the fact that liberal judges and other elected officials refuse to protect the public interest and allow criminals to repeat offenses and ones own back yard becomes a dangerous place. I was someone who believed in this until personal effects were stolen and my life was endangered (on separate occasions). Even the police that arrived suggested purchasing protection. It changes your perspective...

We Americans have the right to bear arms. It is in our Constitution. This does not mean that we have the right to kill just for the sake of killing. We must have good reason to use our guns (if we have them). No one forces guns on any of us. Yet, those who have guns often must register them with a government agency in case they are stolen & misued in a criminal situation. Current laws say that all guns must be stored safely when children are in the home.
Back in the day, I imagine guns were useful in hunting for food to feed your family & obtaining animal skins to use for coats in the harsh winter climates. Guns kept large predators at bay (bears, wolves, mountain lions) and were used to defend homes & land against both Cowboy & Indian attacks.
Guns are useful, yet not always practical in many situations in todays world.
I was raised with guns & I support the right for responsible people to be able to have them in their homes.
My biggest concern is when a gun gets into the hands of a criminal. Worse yet, in the hands of an unstable mind that does not think of the safety of the innocent people in the surrounding area when they use that gun!
Every gun & owner should be registered & pass a safety certification test. No one with a mental condition or criminal history should be allowed to legally carry a weapon of any kind. That's my take on guns. Keep them safe & legal & in the hands of responsible people, Children who are raised to respect the power of the gun usually are better citizens in their adult lives. This is my opinion regarding this extremely sensitive issue.

Strictly speaking, the Constitution states that a trained militia should have the right to bear arms; or as we would thing of them now, armed forces and the police. It says nothing about any old tom, dick or harry being allowed a gun. the words have been twisted to suit what some people want them to say.

It was so that there would be someone to protect the land and defend the helpless in case the British tried to go against the Declaration of Independence and seize control again.
