You don't say if you're a soprano, mezzo, alto... kind of important. Also if this is just to build your repetoire or for a specific audition? Any chance you can elaborate?
In general you stay away from shows that are very popular right now. Shows currently on broadway or on tour, etc. Also classics that were made popular by someone iconic such as, don't sing Over The Rainbow unless specifically asked lest you be compared to Judy Garland, etc.
I'll try to check back for your range and any possible audition info or character types you wish to onvey and maybe I can make some good suggestions. For opera you can look at Gilbert and Sullivan if you're looking to stay within musical theatre. You should have at least one good SOndheim song in your repetoire but it shouldn't be your go to song since it can be difficult music. Do you know your type? Are you a character, ingenue, ...?

For a ballad I would do "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera and for an upbeat song "Popular" from wicked would be good. Best of Luck and hope you get the part!

I'm not so into those kind of music but I can give some opinions. If you know your limits or standard, you should know what kind of song suits you. I mean, the song that you're going to sing for, has to be nice and makes you feel comfortable. Any songs that makes your voice sounds nice, that would be ok. Don't force yourself over some really great song but you just can't sing it. Know your limits. Choose a song that you can sing with emotion.

perhaps "wishing you were somehow here again" from phantom for use of head voice as well as a type of ballad, also, "you must love me" from evita for a ballad. also for a high voice, "til there was you" from the music man
