When the Equal Rights Amendment was up for ratification, feminists did in fact support women being part of the selective service system, and it was th opponents of ERA that used this argument to defeat it. Since then they are pursuing full equality piecemeal, and this is the issue that has the lease support among the general public and there is no draft, so it would be foolish to expend their efforts on it.

I would suppose for the same reason that at the age of 30 I do not know a single male that has.
And don't even get me started on how we are only assigned to gate or desk duty (yes, I actually have 5 female friends in the USA armed forces, If you were going to try to call me out on not knowing how things work - I do all too well. Sweet little Holly is a kick a** Marine).
If this woman is getting called up to fight for her nation, it had better be TO FIGHT FOR HER NATION - ON THE FRONT LINES!!!!
Why won't you let me?
Afraid that I might acutally find bin Laden, which you men have failed to do (thats a barb at the leadership - NOT the troops)?
How horribile it would be if it was a WOMAN who took him...
You have my honest word that I will sign up when women are treated equaly in this nation, and our governement - armed forces- is a start.
I am more than wiling to fight and even die for what America TRULY represents, once she gets there.

You have a good argument. I am currently undecided in the debate of letting women be in the infantry or other front line combat roles. Like you, I believe women that want equal rights also need to exercise equal responsibility, even if it means going to war. Then I also feel that the vast majority of women are physically inferior to men when it comes to the endurance and strength required in combat. But I see no reason to bar women from the draft since they can do support and supply roles in the military, like they do now.

The modern feminist movement is a tool of the internationalist left used to weaken this country and bring about disharmony in the traditional family. The issues of equal pay and the right to vote have long been settled. What is now being advanced is the insane notion that there is no difference between the sexes. That women can be just as effective in any job a man holds. Common sense tells us that a 150lb women could not possibly be as effective as a police officer, or fireman as a 225lb male can be. Common sense tells us that men and women see issues in a different way, common sense tells us that women as combat soldiers would not be as effective as men. Larry Summers, one time president of Harvard was ran out of his job for suggesting that men and women have differences in the way they think and in what their interests are. It was the leftist professors of that once great institution that made that so

Because it's all about freedom and having the same choices and the same rights as men.
Selective service is neither freedom, nor choice. I do not support it for men OR women!
If a country cannot get enough takers for military positions voluntarily then maybe it shouldn't be fighting a war that the country does not agree with!

I agree with you. As a feminist and a woman, I'm dissapointed more women have't protested for the right to be a part of selective service. Our government doesn't want to give it to us, we have to fight for it. We can never achieve equality unless we are truly equal in every facet of life and service.

First off - before anyone starts screaming at me - I do not consider myself a feminist. I do support equality, but also think that there are some limits. I think that most feminists are nuts!
That said: many of them are scared. Of course we should fight for the good things, but why start in the things that would NOT necessarily benefit us. Also: women are needed back home to care for families and continue to breed....sorry men cant do that. Plus: torture techniques to garner information from women are far more productive, simply because many women have a lower pain tolerance (not counting chld-birth, but I think thats a different subject)
Also as a note: I think that women should be able to defend our nation on the front lines...

Good question, one the feminazi will run from or try to spin. They should either be subject to any possible draft or go back to being barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.
