The best hairdresser I ever had was a man, but he was too expensive to keep going to.
I prefer a female gynecologist and no gender preference for a GP.
No preference for mechanics or other service providers!

This I find to be an interesting question. I do not like anyone, other than the person I'm sleeping with, to touch my hair. I have more of an issue with that than with any other thing you mention. I have long hair for a reason...I HATE going to hairdressers. But if I have to go, it would be a woman. Even the thought of a man touching my hair makes me shudder.
My doctor is a woman, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't have a car, but if I did, I'd probably take it to a man because there aren't many other options. I think all health care professionals with whom I interact would be female, but sometimes there are no options but to go to a male. For some women, that's a problem. I'm sure going to a female doctor can be a problem for men as well. I find overall that women seem to be more definite in their preferences for males or females than are men. Interesting question.

It really makes no difference to me, though I've been using the same fellow now for about 5 years or so. Prior to that a woman cut my hair. Just make sure if a guy is cutting your hair (and you're a guy) that you keep those elbows tucked in!
Oh yeah, and never trust a bald barber...he doesn't respect your hair!
For the doctor or the car, either is fine with me.

For hair: it doesn't matter to me, as long as they're good. I've never had a woman work on my car, but that's not because I don't want one working on my car. I just don't know any female mechanics.

update: For a doctor, I don't really care either unless it's a GYN. I prefer female GYNs

myself ( a woman)

i dont like anyone touching my hair.
i never have. it makes my skin crawl for some reason.

doctor? who has better credentials? who hasnt had any malpractice suits filed against them? in this case..ill take whoever is better qualified.

my car...if i drove...to be honest a man.
men can generally lift heavier things if need be my dad works at an independant car place ran by a friend of his and he sometimes lifts some big @ss engines.

but if it was something as simple as an oil change or whatever..i think i can handle that on my own.

My stylist is a woman, my doctor is a man, and I don't have a car to be worked on. It doesn't matter what gender they are, as long as they keep my hair and my health in check. My stylist used to be a man, but I stopped seeing him for a very dumb reason that can be blamed on my mother. (He's Syrian; we're Jewish; she's prejudiced.)

It's about the skill. I do require a female gynecologist because I would never see a "specialist" that doesn't have the same parts. Think about it, would you see a mechanic that doesn't have a car or license? I wouldn't see a oo oo Dr. that doesn't have an oo oo.

My hairdresser is male, my doctor is female and I don't know or care who works on my car, as long as they know what they are doing around my Saab.
My eighty five year old father prefer female doctors. He says they are more patient and he says he thinks they seem to care more.

I don't care about any of those. Had male and female hairdressers, doctors, etc.

However, I've never met a female mechanic. I know one who's a airplane mechanic, but I don't know a female car mechanic.
