I just saw my gyno today and told her I had become sexual active, and asked her if my birth control was effective at preventing pregnacy. She' said at my weight which is about 104 at a height of 5'4 she said that my pill would be 100% effective at preventing pregnacy. So does my boyfriend still need to use a condom during sex, if we have both been checked for an STD or AIDs and both of us have neither?

I don't think there is any birth control that is 100% effective. You can use condoms if you want to, but you don't HAVE to. A lot of people on birth control use condoms as a backup. I know people who have gotten pregnant with using condoms only, people who have gotten pregnant that were using birth control and took it consistently, etc. So, there's no 100%. BUT! Birth control is like, 99% effective if taken regularly/consistently... so, you should be perfectly fine. I personally, would use condoms all the time even if I was on birth control.
But it's up to you, really. A lot of my friends don't use condoms if they're on birth control, unless they miss a pill or two, then they'll use condoms for a couple of days just to "make sure".

There is no such thing as a birth control method that is 100% effective, because we're human. You've both been cleared for STD's, but if you truly want to be sure that you won't get pregnant condoms with your pill are the best way. If you wouldn't be crushed if you had an accidental pregnancy, then go without condoms.

no birth control is 100% effective (i believe the pill is about 99%); beware, however, because certain medicines can affect the sucessfulness of birth control pills (like antibiotics); i was on the pill for about 2 years and had sex with my husband without a condom and never ended up pregnant; but if you want to be super safe and definately sure, i'd make him wear a condom. plus you never know about your partners other partners, even if you think you're absolutely sure.

If your doctor told you that your method is 100% effective, your doctor is a complete F**KING MORON.

NO method of contraception is EVER 100% effective...EVER. Weight plays only a small factor; chemical interaction with other things you eat, drink or take (med's) can impact efficacy, as can how WELL you take it.

If you're REALLY worried about pregnancy then I would recommend using a condom. However, I've been using the pill off & on my entire life and have never had a pregnancy scare....but I'm FANATICAL about taking it, so there you go.

Yes, you should still use a condom regardless if you are on birth control. Condoms prevent from stds. No matter if you or him have anything now, some guys/some girls cheat. Suppose he cheats and gets something and brings it back to you, then what. If I were you, yes I would still use a condom, because my life is to precious to risk for sex.

NO birth control is 100% effective. I'd still use the condom. Doubling up on the protection won't hurt.

Nothing is 100% but it can get pretty close. If you and your BF are in a long term monogamous relationship and you are prepared to cope with the consequences of a 1% chance of pregnancy then you don't have to wear a condom.

The only birth control method that is 100% effective is abstinence.
