Well in my baby book that I have, it says that the actual age of the fetus is two weeks behind when you actually concieved. That is why a pregnancy test won't work after just a couple of days. When I went to the doctor, she asked me when my last period was. That is how they count how many weeks you are. Mine has never been regular so I just gave her an estimate. I too know the day I got pregnant. I'm six weeks today. So when I told her my last period, she automatically knew that I was almost 6 weeks. So whenever you say you got pregnant, just count from there because that is what I did. Just make sure to make an appointment at the doctors office because she can tell you exactly how many weeks and give you imformation on payjment, vitamins and other things that you need to know. Good luck and congradulations!!

Your pregnancy and the baby's conception are 2 different times. Why? Because they count you as "pregnant" from your last menstrual period and not the day you got pregnant...but the baby's conception is usually about 2 weeks after that. Now even this will not tell you EXACTLY when you conceived...all the doctor can give you is a best guess. Once you see the first ultrasound then they are better able to give you a more accurate assessment of your stage of pregnancy. This is especially true since you are not sure about your last period and the fact that it was out of whack. This could also have affected your ovulation. Also since you made a "baby" ticker and not a "pregnancy" ticker that could add to your confusion. Good luck and congrats on the little one.

Pregnacy is measured based on the ASSUMPTION of a 28 day cycle and tracked by LMP (last menstral period, the day your last period started). So by the time you miss your period on day 29, you are 4 weeks pregnat, and you are IN your fifth week of pregnancy, even though conception happenned only 2 weeks ago.

What can be really confusing is the abbreviations used to track pregnancy, often show as W#D#. What makes it confusing is that the number following W is what week you are in (so Day 29 is W5). But the number following D is how many days have passed during the week.

So basically, the 1st day of your LMP is W1D0.
The 1st day that you miss your period (Day 29) is W5D0 (at which point you are 4 weeks and 0 days pregnant).

So when you see a number like W7D5, that means you are 5 days pregnant in the 7th week. On W8D0, you are 7 weeks pregnant. Stated another way, on W8D0, you are 0 days pregnant IN week 8 of your pregnancy.

[Edit]
According to DW, I'm still confused. While I've got things right regarding LMP, she claims that W7D5 means you are 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant. In other words, the day after you miss your period, you are in week 5, but it would be denoted W4D0 (4 weeks and zero days pregnant).

Pregnancy begins on the first day of your last period, thats why for a normal 28 day cycled woman the 5th week is the week she realizes she's missed or missing her period.

Your baby has been growing for 3 weeks 6 days, but you are 5 weeks pregnant.

The most objective way of finding out is by going to a doctor. He will then probably have you undergo an ultrasound and the machine will give you an estimate based on the fetus' size. That's the surest way. Also, there's nothing wrong about getting a check up you'd also get to know how your baby is doing.

i was 3 weeks pregnant when i missed my period and found out i was pregnant. Have you made your first pre-natal apointment yet? When you go, they will be able to figure all that out for you, especially if they do an ultrasound and measure the baby.

congrats and good luck!!!
