The full meaning of my name is ''from the irish 'cair' meaning dark and dusky. A protecting and caring nature and the ability to adapt to any situation. A modern idealist with an engaging charm. A golden thread in the world's tapestry.'' My name only half means dark and dusky and that's only the meaning of the word my name comes from!! As you can see the in depth meaning is nice and flattering!! LOL!!

I don't have to correct people on how to spell/pronouce it. I'm from Ireland and no one spells it Keira. That is only a new thing by Americans and Brits.

No one mispronounces my name in Ireland cause Ciara is the only way we spell it.

My name is Christina Patricia, I have never liked it but wouldn't go so far as to change it. I just use Chrissy instead. First name after my great grandfather Christopher and the second after my mother.

I can't stand my name (Clare Marie). There were 5 Clare's in my year at school, and about the same in the years above and below me. And if I ever tell anyone my full name they always without fail say its a very Catholic name which annoys me. Also Clare goes badly with my married surname.
I like Ciara, I have a little cousin called that, though hers is spelt Kiera.

I didn't like my name when I was younger, mostly because people were messing it up which really confused me since its not a difficult name, My name is Alexandra and people were always saying Alexandria. It's nice that there are so many nicknames to go with it. Most people call me Alex, but my Aunt calls me Al, my best friend Ali, and my mom Ali Wali(don't ask!), but there are so many others as well, like Lexi, Alexa, Sandra, etc.
I like your name a lot! And I perfer the spelling, although I'm sure people are constantly mispronouncing it like Cee-ara!

Heh, I am Irish as well and my name is Irish, sweet and simple but when I moved to England people have called me many things, Emma, Erin, Emir none of these are my name I love the way people look at the spelling and then say Emma as if I don't know how to spell my own name.
My brother's name is Ciaran and hates it when people spell it with a K, and my poor friend is Aoife and she gets called very weird things. I like your name its very pretty.

Ciara is very pretty.
The Anglicised version "Keira" has taken off in recent years because of Keira Knightley - a shame as its becoming a bit overused in the UK now. . .
My name's Katherine and I love it. I can shorten it to Kate or Kathy or whatever I like. Its classic and timeless and never dates or sounds trashy etc. I'm so glad my mum had good taste when she named me!
My baby son is Arthur. We chose it because I'm Welsh and my partner is English and "Arthur" was the King of the Ancient Britons so we felt it reflected his heritage. Its also a good, strong, dignified name which to me signifies a great leader. It was also my other half's grandfather's name and my great uncle's name (who died in WWI). I love it and also love the fact its very unusual to find a baby boy called Arthur in 2007!!!

I do think names can suit people like an illiterate pavement spitter who likes to swear does not suit a lot of nice names.
You need to live up to your name. A name is not something you can't hide behind. Your name could be John Smith but if you speak well, drive a Rolls Royce and wear a tailored suit you are going to impress a lot of people regardless of your actual income.

My name is very dull and far too popular amongst the 25-100 age range. David. Must have taken my parents ages, that one.
Ciare Marie is a pretty name, altough I wouldnt call a child Ciare now as it's probably a bit common sounding now due to the popularity of Keira knightly.

many people do not even know what their name means or the history of it or why their parents gave it to them. You know more than most. some cutlures do not give name until the child is older so that the personality can be discribed in their name. this is more in keeping with names that match people. oddly, some people make up names for their children as well. the name may sound great but have no meaning at all.

I used to hate my name (Lisa) but it's grown on me.
I think your name is cool ... I have never seen it spelled that way though, it'd drive me nuts always having to correct people who assume Keira.
I don't know if the person behaves as we'd assume from the name or if we base our assumptions of what a "mary" or "tina" will be like from people we know who have the name or characters we've seen.... I kind of think that it's a social thing.
