So what is it "before conception" or "after conception".??
The sperm is actively alive and the egg is certainly a viable living cell. So there is a life before conception. If fertilization does not take place both will perish. If they join there is a living group of cells. This does not mean that they will become a living entity because there is a lot that can happen in 9 months, but the potential is there. That's why some people get so upset about stem cell research from a petri dish.

You need to be a little more specific....

What is "something".

If you want to get specific....then sperms are living, eggs are living, etc. etc....all of the little organisms in your body are living....

However, I do believe you mean a fetus.....well, this is one of the most contraversial and greatest debates in the world for a long time now.

A fetus is always living...it growing and developing, so some see it that way.

Other's say that it is when the hearbeat starts...that generally happens at 6-8 weeks of pregnancy.

As of right now, there are many scientific, religious, individual opinions on this...and you will recieve many many different answers.

It is a personal opinion...this answer to your question.

I would say sperm and egg. so is this Cristain belief suggesting if you do not get pregranunt every time a woman menstralate?

I think that any cells are cells, they die all the time. If abortion is chosen or contreception its not morally wrong. Intelligence and charecter is just as dependant on that as genetics. For example an unwanted baby is forced into an unhappy life as the mother is cristain. the father leaves and you have wrongly brought someone into the world, who may well be harming others, is this the cirsumstances taht cristainity is encouraging?

this is not a rant, but a hypothetical example.

It all depends on your point of view. Cells are "alive" so sperm and eggs can be thought of as living, even before conception. But the definition of "live" also states: To enjoy or make the most of life; to be in a state of happiness. No cell can do that.

All cells are living so even before theres an actual baby something is living. Its not a baby before conception, but the moment those cells join(egg and sperm) its alive and growing!

I guess as soon as a spermatozoon and ova meet up and the first cell division takes place it is in process of living - but that would be different to being viable. I guess cancer is alive when it does the same thing.

I think that at the moment of fertilization, when the sperm and the egg become a single unit, that this IS life.

We are constantly looking for "life" in outer space. I've often heard it said that "life" could be something that we wouldn't even recognize. Yet when it comes to an embryo, they try to say that this isn't "life".

Can't have it both ways.

both the sperm and the ovum are living cells... thats why those are called living. the meeting of the ovum and the sperm which we call as fertilization or conception and definitely this is a living thing since the zygote(fertilized ovum) is a fast growing living cell.

To me it is the point of known conception......now if this is concerning abortion I guess the other part of my answer will upset some people. I feel........it's the woman's body and it should be her choice (and only her choice) in order to continue the life or not.

It is my belief that at conception, there is life.

The heartbeat begins very early within the first couple of weeks as well.
