I have never met a Democrat who wasn't working. I have met lots of Republicans who never worked a day in their life.

The welfare system in the country is indeed broken - so much so that there are, or were, Democrats earning just enough above the poverty level to pay for benefits for those who refuse to work, but not enough to afford child care or health insurance so they CAN work - those Democrats have gotten so disgusted they have changed parties. BUT the Republicans aren't helping!!!!! The SCHIP program vetoed by Bush and voted down by Repubs. in congress would have helped children of WORKING parents, not those of parents who pretty much use pregnancy as a career to get more hand-outs. I wish there were a party for blue-collars that pushed socialized health care and required welfare recipients to work at SOMETHING, but there isn't. Therefore for lack supporting big oil businesses and sending billions to other countries with better health care, I am now a democrat - working two jobs to pay for others' "handouts" -- and not really preferring that my tax dollars go to other countries OR lazy people in this one or to pay for Medicaid for their kids when my own child goes without health insurance and immunizations. Maybe we should divide the dems up into working and nonworking and back separate candidates?

I'm not worried about me.
I don't make very much money... i make enough to pay for my home and my bills.
i paid for college by myself
i have never gotten government aid at all for anything...

...but i still care about my fellow man. I am not SO upset about having worked so hard for what i have that i look down on those who haven't achieved the things i've achieved

The fact is, there are people that need help. Some people started off in a bad place... it's not their fault.
some people made some bad mistakes throughout life...does that make them worthless? Should the suffer a lifetime for some bad mistakes?

i believe we should try to help them. We're fellow americans, we're fellow human beings.

Why should I feel contempt or look down upon someone because they're in a worse position than me?

it sickens me to no end when people are so heartless that they can't look past themselves and their own hard work (yes, i believe that you've worked hard for what you have) and see that there are people who need help?

what is so wrong with helping people? why do you all hate so many people who are in a worse spot than you?

I just don't understand.

Considering that the tab for social spending in Red States is higher than in Blue states, you're on thin ice here.

Not that that bothers the cons--to them its jsut rhetoric. Their point isn't that they don't want handouts--the take more--and earn less--than liberals. Their point is tat it gratess their racist teeth to see anyone who isn't one of their white supremecist friends getting help.

Funny, it's the Republicans who whine about having to pay for anything but have their hands out for the largest piece of the pie. Corporate welfare, anyone? They get tax breaks and use the money to set up overseas, taking American jobs with them. Look in the mirror, moron. It's neo-cons destroying our economy through greed and short-sighted personal ambitions. But, just like a Republican, it's easier to point fingers than be responsible for one's own actions. Intellectual dishonesty and ignorance for all!

Handouts are never enough, remember that the more they offer and the more give, the more votes they get.

Not really, because by the time I get to the head of the line, the Republicans have taken everything that's any good.

I suspect I contribute more to the tax base than most Republicans...

And I get NOTHING handed out to me.

BECAUSE I DON'T NEED IT.

Yes, I'm sure you can find people who abuse "the system", just like there are Republicans who find loopholes through the tax code, right?
