Good question. I'm actually confused whether love is work of the brain or it is work of the heart or soul. There is a part in the brain that controls the function of appeal. What i mean is - if love just a liking towards one another? If two teenagers keep seeing eachother and then randomly say "I love you" it's probably hormones, as you said.
What is love exactly? It is just some physical liking? Or is it something you're supposed to feel (emotionally)?
When you don't know whether to follow your head or your heart, in the real world, you're better of following your head.

Hormones are only one part of love. It also involves our social schemas and ideas that we have developed over our lifetimes of what an ideal person is. When we meet someone who comes close we believe we have accomplished an important social and personal mission. That intellectual achievement with the hormonal stuff contributes to our declaration of "love"

If that is true of one type of love, that would just be romantic love, and there are lots of other kinds of love possible, such as within families, between friends or for a group. I'm not saying those aren't governed by hormones as well though, just not sex hormones. I'm not aware that they are outside families though.

Love must be one of the the most used, yet, least properly used word in any language.
Yes, it is used by people with limited vocabularies who are unable to tell love from an itch.

if two 60 year old people fall in love with each other is it considered rising hormones or do they truely love each other?

You may not be familiar with this, but reductionism is philosophically untenable, scientifically dubious, and intuitively silly. You should get out a bit more.

Nope. I use it all the time. Don't make a fetish out of science; it doesn't impress anybody and may impede your chances of having children..
