I went to an interview in Plano, TX for a big company. The interview lasted 2 and a half hours. After an hour he asked me did I have anywhere else to go and I responded no and he said good. After that he started referring to me as, "you will be doing this and that and I want you to be involved in our new project, do you think you can do this and this? It will require alot of overtime, are you available to do overtime just till March when the project is done. He continue to tell me that we will have conference calls almost every day. He printed out charts to show me the market surveys they use and how I will be creating jobs. He told me "we will start you off at 65k base salary". He made me feel like I was hired. I was given an application and a background check form. However, he did not give me the offer. He said there were things he needed to review and had more questions to ask and that he was going to call me with more questions. He appeared to be very confident in me.

Sounds like you have the job, but the company needs to run a background check on you and iron out a few details before the offer is made.

Congrats.

Well, you may or may not have the job. People in interviews usually talk about what you "will" be doing as an employee with the company. They talk that way to all the applicants. Now, if they've spent this much time with you, then you're definitely being taken very seriously, so that's a good sign. Continue to answer their questions well, and I think you have a strong chance of being hired, so long as there isn't some other candidate outshining you that you don't know about. Don't stop your job search til an official offer is made.

I would say the interviewer has no idea what he's doing. I watched the owner of our company do this a few times when he first took over the business from his dad. He meant well but really had no idea how to interview or manage an office. As a result he led alot of people on with 2 to 3 hour interviews and hired alot of people on the spot without knowing what they were capable of.

It sounds like your guy is new and really enjoys listening to himself talk. I would be upfront with the interviewer and ask him if you are hired.Tell him that "it feels like I'm hired,am I"
Say it with a smile and wait.

Best of luck, but generally this means nada-squanto-zilch. I've had the same type of interviews in the past. It's almost like they are playing some kind of psychological game to loosen you up. Another questionable practice is when they have to run a credit history on you. I think this type of practice should be made illegal.

Be sure NOT to give away your expertise for nothing. Get hired first.

It may be he is just picking your brain to get the solution to a problem HE has and wants to take credit for. Make it clear in any further discussions that you are confident that you can handle any problems or projects that you may become involved with and say no more.

Sound like they're interested, but will not make a formal offer until the background check is done. Good luck.

Sounds like you're on the short list for getting the job. Good luck!

send him a short note thanking him for his time and express you desire to work for him. You are on the short list, so don't get too worked up. How long has it been. If over a week, something may have changed. Be confident but not overbearing. . . good luck.
