I have seen the first two Saw movies. The premise is that after being diagnosed with a terminal disease, a twisted killer (Jigsaw) tries to instill a sense of preciousness of life in others by forcing them to play 'games' he sets up. These games always involve the player making a gruesome decision in order to stay alive.
The movies themselves are more gory than they are scary (scary in the suspenseful way). The most disturbing thing about them is that the writers could actually think up those twisted life/death games!
Although popular among people in my ~20 year old age group, the Saw movies are DEFINITELY not something my own parents could sit through, let alone enjoy in any way shape or form.

I cannot even stand to know the adult kids are watching them in the house. I prefer they go to the movies if they must watch that gore. But about 20 or more years ago I took up the stance if it was disgusting to me then don't bring it in the house. Of course as you can tell all my kids are ready to leave home by the time they are 18...dang now if they just wouldn't go have kids, divorce and come back.

And then some!! Too gruesome for words. Tc has watched them all. I've been in the same room when he's watched them but I don't see a lot with a cushion in front of my face or wrapped up in my cosy blanket! Sometimes that's not enough....the sound effects are not nice so I have to plug my ears too. It'd be a whole lot easier if I went upstairs or something lol.

So very very very very gross. And they get grosser as the series goes on.
Blood, gore, mutilations, torture (both physical and psychological), it's all in there, and a lot of it.
Saw 2 has the dubious distinction of being one of only three movies that have made me look away from the screen. That's because I have a phobia about needles.
And Saw 3 has a scene that actually caused me to gag, so utterly gross that I refuse to repeat it here.
Despite all that, I still think they are decent movies. A fairly intelligent and well-written concept, as far as that sort of movies go.

Thay are as bad as you think they are. I love horror movies and I have to turn away sometimes. There's nothing wrong with them though, it's only actors and sets. But psycholocically, knowing how bad it would be if it were, real is what gets me.

No. My son watches those types and I wish he wouldn't. I don't like them. Too gory and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Much like Silence of the Lambs. Don't want that stuff in my mind.

My 15 y.o. grand daughter watches them and she is a scardy cat. I haven't seen them but from what she tells me I don't think I will even though she pleads with me to watch them. Just not my type of movie.

Well I personally can't watch films with disturbing torture scenes. I also hate to sound prudish but it seems unhealthy to make movies where people leave feeling like their phyche is bruised.
