my personal opinion:
Disappointing team: Denver Broncos- worst rushing defense in the NFL when they were ranked 6th last year
Surprising team: Detroit Lions- who would've thought they would be competing for playoffs??

Most Disappointing Teams:

New Orleans - The SI Super Bowl Jinx continues. They were picked by that sports publication to be in the Super Bowl. Although they've won 4 out of 5, many thought (including myself as a fan) they'd win 10-12 games this year. But the offense has fallen apart at times, exposing their flaws on defense. Will Smith said it best, their best defense is a great offense

Denver - Cutler has regressed, they can't stop anyone from running on them and they've had injuries at the skill positions. The scary thing is that their record could actually be worse.

Chicago - The Bears are who we thought they were! And I guarantee you that no one will "crown their @$s" this year. They were nightmarish offensively last year and they GAVE away their most consistent skill player in Thomas Jones. Cedric Benson has Curtis Enis & Rashaan Salaam written all over him. Rex the Hex has been horrid again, Greise has been Grossman-esque in his performances, and the defense is a huge liability now with injury problems and inconsistently. They are who I thought they were.

Surprising Teams:
Green Bay - Raise your hand if you expected them to be 8-1. I know not me either. Favre has done more with less than anyone else in football this year. He's my MVP, not that guy in Foxboro and not the guy he throws to either. Scary thing is, Green Bay's running game is coming around. Will we have a repeat of a player going out on top, like we did with the Steelers' Jerome Bettis? (You know, but without the horrible officiating in the game)

Detroit - Raise your hand if you laughed when John Kitna said Detroit would win 10 games this year. I know me too. We expected the Lions to be explosive on offense with the weapons they have at the skill positions, but their defense is a turnover machine, and they're doing it with guys no one's heard of. They trade their top cover corner, yet the defense is near the top of the league in interceptions. This team is for real folks.

Cleveland - Cleveland Rocks! Cleveland Rocks! Cleveland Rocks! Cleveland Rocks! With their weapons at the skill positions healthy and an improved offensive line, this team can score with anyone, and their defense ain't half bad either. What isn't a surprise about the Browns is that an upgrade at the quarterback position transformed them from pretenders to contenders. The surprise is the quarterback is not Brady Quinn. It's Derek Anderson, the same player who almost didn't make it through preseason as a member of the Browns, and the same player who the Ravens got rid of (they'd love to have him now wouldn't they?) I don't care if they did draft Quinn, put a 1st and 3rd round tender on this guy and keep him around, because if you start Quinn next year, you regress as a team and Romeo bites the dust. They'll be in the playoffs.

@insane_blackhawks_fan: super answer! Kay, i think of you're properly conscious with the aid of now that the pink Wings are my maximum disliked group. it is by the fact the pink Wings have given the Blackhawks a perplexing time for an prolonged time. pink Wings followers used to occupy particularly some the United center whilst the pink Wings got here into city. fortuitously for the Blackhawks, the video games started advertising out. The contention between the two NHL communities seems to be as stable because of the fact the rivalries in different leagues the place a Chicago group and a Detroit group are interior the comparable branch. an extensive 2nd is Vancouver because of the way they play and act. i won't stand the hair pulling, the finger biting, the cheap photographs, the off-ice trash conversing, and the debate that has surrounded the franchise ever because of the fact the Bertuzzi incident. i won't start to describe how excited i exchange into whilst Boston won interest 7 and the Stanley Cup. If the Canucks confirmed an abundance of sophistication the two on and stale the ice, i might sense lots extra ideal approximately them.

I disagree with you and the detroit lions. Look at their passing offense, Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson. It would be more disapointing if they weren't competing for a play off spot. And Joey Kitna isn't good but isn't bad.

I think the most disapointing team is the Arizona Cardinals. Look at the roster. Kurt Warner, Matt Leinert, even though he sucks, Edgerrin James, Larry Fritzerald, Anquon Boldin. Their defense isn't too bad, Placing 9th, 10th and 13th in Total Yards, Pasing yards and Rushing Yards respectively. Then you look at their record 4-5.

Surprising team - Green Bay Packers, enough said
Wasted a first round pick, passed out on Randy Moss. Brett Favres gotta have a hella lot of arthritis. No running game they had that rookie corner back. Roster was virtually the same as last year, and now look at them. 8-1

49ers are the most disappointing to me; they really seemed to be turning a corner and poised to take the NFC West (so much so that no one questioned trading away their #1 pick to the Pats - now it could be a top-5 pick)

Ravens are a close 2nd - remember they won 13 games last year.

Most surprising to me is Pittsburgh. They were out of the playoff picture last year, new coaching staff, and now they're poised to win 13 games and possibly a #2 seed and a bye. Cleveland is right there as well, but I see them as an 8 win team.

Detroit is a good story too, but I'm not sold - and the NFC is weak as a whole. Honorable mention to GB; but again, everyone is a contender in the NFC when the season starts.

Most Disappointing in the AFC- Jets- Everyone thought they would give the Pats a run in that division and make the Playoffs. What was that nick name for their head coach last year?
In the NFC-Saints- They can still make the Playoffs in the NFC, but they were a popular pick for the Superbowl.

Most Surprising team in the AFC-Browns- That QB of theirs is playing incredible right now and they are right there for a wild card spot.
In the NFC-Lions- 6 and 3 right now. usually it is the other way around.

Honorable mentions for most disappointing-Baltimore, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Chicago and Denver

Honorable mentions for most surprising- Green Bay
