Cody is correct,

also some call centers have you call out to try to make sales. If you can't handle constant rejection, don't go to work for one of those.

yes. You sit at a computer monitor and have a headset glued to your head all day. You take continual calls for the company's customers who have problems with their bills or a question about the product of a complaint. Typically the call center is hired by a big company. So you might work for Convergys, which is a call center company, but when you are working, you might be answering calls from AT+T cell phone customers for example.

Basically, any single time you have ever called any compnay for any reason to ask a question, or to complain about your bill, you are talking to someone sitting in a call center.

Oh yeah, make sure you are not goin to work for an OUTBOUND call center, working as a sales telemarketer, calling people up and buggin them at dinner.

Working at the inbound call centers answering customer questions and complaints isn't too bad.

I have worked in a few call centres. Pay is usually low, and the shifts can be hard to deal with. Some call centres can be open 24 hours, others can work anywhere from 8 to 16 hours every day. One of my jobs I would often be on the evening shift working 3pm to 11pm. And then there is the early morning shift working 7am to 3pm.

But as has been mentioned, you are on the telephone most of the time. Either receiving incoming calls from clients or customers, or on outgoing calls which means you are selling or looking for information.

Also you have to be able to tell lies and believe them.

I spent 4 years telling customers that their phones would be fixed with 24 hours - when the cable techs were telling us the cable was cut, its gonna take 5 days.

Hotel reservations, customer service departments for companies, insurance companies have them (both car insurance and health insurance), some airline reservations are still done here in the U.S.

Most call center jobs have been moved overseas or are being moved overseas but there are some still located here in the U.S.
