You'll need a great source of income (so I hope you've banked some major dough), a thick skin, and while you think you have major talent... so do so many others in NY. You need to be strong, confident, but humble. Only drag queens get away with too much attitude. Just do your thing. If you're going to school, hopefully you can afford housing. It's one of the most (if not the most) expensive in the country.

There are books about how to get along in NY. Some are called:
"Welcome to New York: How to Settle and Survive in New York"
"HELP! How to Survive in New York City For The Newcomer"
"New York City For Dummies"
"How To Survive In New York City A Pratt Students Guide To Living & Playing"

Maybe you can get them at the library and see if any of them will be helpful to you. You don't need family, you'll make friends. Watch Rent a few times.

good luck!

Less ego would be a good idea. Everyone who says lots of money is right, but why a top acting college? Do you want to be a classic stage actor? That is what they train. not that it hurts to be a trained actor when you are in movies. You can get started as an actor in Miami if you have a job with flexibility to let you go to auditions and jobs when you get them. I mentor aspiring actors for free. Read my profile and contact me at my aol address for more info.

Two things to tell you. One, there is a good book called An Actor's Guide: Making It In New York City by a guy named Glen Alterman.

Second: have a look at this page link on my site. There are fifteen page links of things that might help you: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/teen_acting.html

Good luck!

My first reaction was the same as Tom S. He is right, but one other thing you will need is a very good audition piece. I would suggest you get to work on it right away.
