... it is ridiculous how some people are so point crazed that when they vote for best answer they will click the first answer as best, no matter how absurd the answer is, and then move on to the next one, doing the same thing?
There was a question I saw, the first answer was wrong, and it had probably a good 15 thumbs down, yet it had most of the votes for best answer.
I don't really care about points, I just think it's funny and rather sad how some people here are obsessed with gaining points. Is it just me that thinks that way about it?

Inspector - I don't actually CARE about it. It isn't something that bothers me, nor is it something I think " too hard" about (to the person that said I think too hard). It is, after all, just the internet. I just found it sad and a bit amusing that people would be so obsessed with something that means nothing whatsoever.

Gracie, the beginning isn't just "do you think?", it is continued down into the details, which we both know you know. Sorry love, your smartarse comment doesn't work for my question, try again. Besides that...sarcasm is the lowest form of wit :)

I don't even understand what the points are for, so I don't understand a mad rush to get more!

Well,
I think it is a complex question.
First of all, conserving energy seems a common nature of all creature. So pick the first is the a best way to get points with minimum energy-consumption.
Secondly, people are all social being. All their body and mind are socially situated within a large context. So within the large capitalistic social environment, people are unknowingly indoctrinated to accept the capitalistic ideology, say, maximize profit and minimize cost. So pick the top (location) one, should be the most efficient way to make points.
Thirdly, people tend to seek sense achievement in cyberplace. For example, being listed in leader board in yahoo answer and becoming a top contributor. Though, it is difficult to their goal by voting solely, it is contributing. Every point is counted. :)
That is all for now.
Thank you for a great question.

I agree with you. That makes no sense. Why give a best answer to someone who didn't even deserve it. It's not like we can use these points for anything.
If people are that desperate to gain points, they should create another account and answer questions they asked from the original one they created.

Yeah that is a shame. It's not even like the points are worth anything so why not take the time to read through the answers.

Short cut to get points , sacrificing their own qualities. This can also be noticed from the standard of questions asked- sometimes very stupid with stupid answer.
