Check your licence and make sure it shows provisional entitlement for Group A, if it does, book a CBT (£80-£100). When you've done CBT you can ride a bike up to 125cc (11kW) showing L plates. You aren't allowed to carry passengers (or tow a trailer!) until after passing the practical test.
CBT lasts for 2 years, if you haven't passed your test by then you must retake CBT.
You don't need to have passed a Theory Test to take CBT but it would make it easier.
If you want to ride a moped (50cc / less than 31mph), make sure your licence shows Group P &, as long as you passed your car test before 1 Feb. 2001, you don't need L plates or CBT (though DSA recommend you take CBT)

In my State, and most states are like this, mopeds, scooters with engines not over 50cc require no license at all, but if the bike is over 50cc displacement, then you have to have a motorcycle endorsement on your license, even if you drive a piece of junk 125cc bike, unless of course, the bike is a 125cc dirt bike, which is NOT LEGAL to drive on public streets or highways in ANY state. So hate to tell you, you'll probably have to get the endorsement. You can get a motorcycle learners' permit first. Depends on the state you live in. Better contact your DMV or whatever they call in your area.

you need to complete your CBT (which is the easiest test you have done in your life!)

then you need to ride with L plates and you cant have a passenger. untill you do a full test of course.

you could ride a 50cc with no L plates and take a passenger as long as you passed your car test before feb 2002 (so thats a yes then)

enjoy

you need to take your theory (hazard perception), then your cbt (compulsary basic training) then you can ride for 2yrs with L plates, if you want to continue riding then you pass your test in those 2yrs, once you passed your test you can ride a bike with a bigger engine. there use to be a course called direct access that enabled you to take a test then ride any size bike straight away, you would have to look into that because i'm not sure if its still available

125cc is considered a motorcycle in every state in the US. So you have to meet whatever requirements your state has for motorcycle privileges. Some states have a different license, and some states have an endorsement for your regular drivers license. Check your states regs.
