my boyfriend says even still and it drives me mad. eg but even still thats not the point! is it not meant to be even so or but still?

"But still," is redundant. Both words mean the same thing, so say either "but" or "still," but not both together. As for "even still," your bf has made up an expression which is meaningless in English. Tell him he has 3 choices: 1) but 2) even so 3) still. If he wants to continue to say, "even still," let him. Boyfriends I know have done many worse things than misuse an expression!

You can take it that a fellow who says 'even still' is like a hollywood actor who does act for $10 even when he is given only 10 cents.

Methinks that your boyfriend is winding you up. "Even so" does much better job than even "But still" (I would use either word; but not both.)

I don't think "but still," is so great. I use it, though.
