I'm a career counselor and I use the o*net website for job descriptions. I also use those job descriptions to make my clients' resumes and job duties sound more professional. Here are the responsibilities for Acct's Receivable clerk listed on their website:
*Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
*Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
*Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
*Debit, credit, and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases, using specialized accounting software.
*Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
*Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements according to established procedures.
*Compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
*Code documents according to company procedures.
*Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
*Operate 10-key calculators, typewriters, and copy machines to perform calculations and produce documents.

Gather all the payments from clients, open their envelopes and look up their account on the computer. Log in that the customer has paid, stamp their check or run it through a reader and send it on to its next stop.
I would be absolutely sure that my job description does not include collections, where you harrass people who don't have the money to pay your bill first thing before they pay for meds, food, etc.

P.S. Very boring job.

I think those names are variations for the same thing. It's semantics. The last two are likely titles intended to dress up a job description and make it sound more important. Even the term bookkeeper can, as a job description have wide meanings. If your interested in accounting, then focus on whether you want a position that requires or does not require a degree. If a degree, focus on CPA. If non-degree, focus on full charge bookkeeper.
