For first-time mothers they can start as soon as 20 weeks.

For subsequent babies, it's not uncommon to get them earlier, so 18 weeks is not abnormal. I'm 19 weeks with my 4th baby and I've been having mild Braxton-Hicks for over a week now.

Congrats!

You can start having them really early, but you won't feel them as early as they come. At 18 weeks its normal, but should be pretty faint. I didn't start feeling them until 6 months and even then I thought it was the babies head pushing out against my stomach because it would get very hard. LOL. Then my fiances mom told me that they were probably BH's, and sure enough they were. Now at 28 weeks, I feel them at least 5-6 hours out of the day, and they kind of take my breathe away. But they are totally normal, its preparing you for what is to come. As long as they don't last long, or start a pattern, or bring you to your knees you are good to go.

Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks

I started getting them earlier with my first pregnancy but this time around (33 weeks along) I got them about 20 weeks. With my first, it was probably 18 weeks.

Dont worry as long as there is no pattern, pain or bleeding.

They actually start at 6 weeks, but you dont feel them until about mid-pregnancy. I'm 20 weeks and have started feeling them this last week. I just looked this information up this morning on Babycenter.com.

With my second and later pregnancies, I started feeling them at 8 weeks.
