My friend is maybe a couple weeks and almost everyday now when she touches something like a doorknob or car, anything metal, she gets shocked. many times a day.

It does seem that for a lot of women the static shock thing happens a lot more frequently.

The static electricity shock is caused when positive and negative charges aren't balanced.

A pregnant woman is carrying another person inside of her, thus she theoretically has extra electrons, which might make her more "negatively charged." Thus, since her atoms are off balance (more negative than positive) she might be more likely to experience static electricity.

Also, static electricity happens more often (to everybody, pregnant or not) during the colder seasons because the air is usually drier, and it's easier to build up electrons on the skin's surface.

Here are ways to avoid the shock:

Try a humidifier in the home to add moisture. When it gets dry here, we have the same problem.

You know, after hearing that- I remember being "shocky" while I was pregnant, with all three of my babies! It's got to be something about pregnancy!
