We know they say to avoid heavy lifting. But what is heavy? Our baby is 17 pounds. And how long should he avoid picking him up if he shouldn't be doing that right now?

My husband is 5'10" and weighs 200. I don't know if 17 pounds is considered "heavy lifting" or not.

"Heavy" is subjective. He should not lift anything over 5 pounds for the first three days. He should not walk anywhere more than to the bathroom, etc for this time. For the rest of the first week 10 pounds should be about it, and no walking for more than 10 min at a time.

After the second week he can carry the baby, walk the dog etc.

After the third week he can mow the lawn, take out the trash etc.

I was 100% in three weeks becuse I followed instrucitons.

More important than height and weight is whether your baby is in the same growth curve/percentile as when she was born. Children are all different sizes, so you really can't compare. Check with the Dr. to see if she is off her growth curve - if she has always been around the 50th percentile, for example, then she should still be around there. If, however, she used to be in the 90th percentile and is now in the 50th, then there MIGHT be a problem. Ellyn Satter, nutrritionist and childhood eating specialist, says that kids eat what they need to eat. Some days they will eat like they're starving, and others they'll barely eat at all, but over the course of a week they get exactly what they need. Kids don't develop eating "problems" until parents get overly involved... Try not to make food an issue - you are responsible for offering appropriate food at regular intervals. Your child is responsible for how much or whether she eats. If she is a milk addict, try offering the solid foods first, then the milk, but again, try not to make it an issue, or it will become a power struggle. I suggest picking up the book "Child of Mine" by Ellyn Satter, it's really helpful in terms of not worrying about food, and how to make sure your child gets the proper nutrition. Hope this helps.

Your scrotum will be numb for 1 to 2 hours after a vasectomy. Apply cold packs to the area and lie on your back as much as possible for the rest of the day. Wearing snug underwear or a jockstrap will help ease discomfort and protect the area.

You may have some swelling and minor pain in your scrotum for several days after the surgery. Unless your work is strenuous, you will be able to return to work in 1 or 2 days. Avoid heavy lifting for a week. heavy lifting is considered to be anything any heavier than a gallon milk jug.

Mine was nothing, at first. Let me tell you, that he had better heed all instructions!

My college room-mate (also on here) came over to spend the weekend with me, when I got mine, so I didn't do anything, except watch TV.

I had mine done on a Thursday, and it was a joke. Well, the joke was not funny on Monday. I jumped out of my truck (about 1.5 feet). I hurt for two days after that. It was my own fault. It has been almost a month, and I am now fully recovered. Honestly, I learned a lesson! Don't let him take any silly chances.

Don't let him do anything for a couple of days - not even pick up the baby. Men feel pretty good after the surgery and barely over do it and end up with an applebag the size of a football. Be patient and let him heal for a couple of days.

Usually they will tell you not to lift anything over 10 lbs after a surgery like that. I wouldn't let him pick anything up over 10 lbs for at least 4 -6 weeks or until he had his check up with his Dr.

A vasectomy is a minor surgery. 17 pounds should not create a problem.
