Unless you know something I don't know, none of them lied in front of the Grand Jury. That's what he's being targeted for. It's not a crime to lie to the press, or to your fans, but it sure is a crime to lie in front of the Grand Jury. Now, many track & field people lied in front of the Grand Jury, Marion Jones comes to mind, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were to be indicted. But other baseball players who testified, like Gary Sheffield & Jason Giambi, admitted it, they told the truth. I do find it interesting that right after they handed the indictment down, they released Bonds former trainer, Anderson, who had been rotting in jail for quite a while for refusing to cooperate. If he rolled over on Bonds, Bonds is toast.
Barry lied and the others didn't, that's the bottom line.

Barry Bonds is a target because of his hatred by many fans, writers, ect. His arrogance and unwillingness to talk with media and fans have put him in a category with those like the Kobe Bryant's and Mike Tyson's. If Bonds was innocent, they would look for some kind of black mark or mistake to put on him to tarnish his name. Steriods is a big part of baseball, but why single out just Bonds?! What about Sosa, McGwire, and many, many, many others that are out there? I for one am a HUGE Bonds fan, but why drag this on for years and years. If they had something on these guys, why didn't they bring it out long ago? Bonds is just going to be the scape goat for this steriods circus, just like Vick went down for the Dog fighting when I'm sure there are others doing the same thing!

My guess is to make an example. You wouldn't get much accomplished in the way of "example" by going after a single A player as hard or a lifetime pine polisher with a .200 average. Anyone saying it's a conspiracy against blacks is lost. Last time I checked the greatest home run hitter (clean) prior to Bonds was Henry Aaron who is black. He certainly had the narrow minded people against him. I would expect that once Bonds gets the screws put to him that he will crumble and drag a lot more down with him though.

I agree with you that it is not fair that he is the only one being targeted. I look at it like this- 80-85% of the players in MLB have probibly used steroids at one time or another and not a single one of them can do what Bonds has done. I think that the fact that he has the record, is black, and is a jerk to the media are the reason's he's being singled out.

Well first off, when you ask such a question, you should specify who you mean by "others".
I am assuming you mean McGwire (retired and will never get a baseball job), Sosa (not nearly as popluar as he and often booed), Giambi (admitted the truth), Canseco (a pariah and a joke).
Some reasons Bonds is targeted:
1) he lied to reporters, he lied to the Giants, he lied to the commissioner, he lied to the fans and worst of all he lied in court. We should just call him "Carpet" Bonds.
2) He knowingly broke a hallowed record under the influence of performance-enhancements.
3) He is an arrogant, self-serving jerk.
So, in summary: Lair, cheater, jerk.
P.S. For you bozos who think it's a racist thing, look up the story of Roger Maris.

They are after all players that cheated but Bonds is the biggest name (and head) connected to steroid use. What he is being indicted for isn't steroid use. It's for perjury and obstruction of justice.
They are releasing his trainer who's been in jail for not rolling on Bonds. Coincidence? I think not

Actually, he's the one who lied to the grand jury. Others like Jason Giambi admitted that they used. Bonds even let his personal trainer take the fall so he wouldn't have to.
