I have been driving for over 40years and I only learned this today.
Have you ever been driving a strange car and pulled in for petrol
and had to get out and look which side you fill up.
Well there is such an easy way. Look on your petrol gauge there is a small icon of a petrol pump. Whichever way the the filler pipe points either left or right that is the way you fill up.
Why have I never known this, it would of saved me many a creacked
neck hanging out of cars looking for the filler cap.
Is this just me or is this common knowledge.

My Neon has this, but I don't remember if my Odyssey has it. The funny thing is, the filler is on the right side of the Neon, but on the left side of the Honda. No matter how many times I get gas in either one, no matter how many times I see the icon on the dash of the Neon, and regardless of the fact that I have owned both vehicles for several years, about a third of the time I pull up on the wrong side of the pump.

Can't speak about the other manufacturers, but Ford started putting the indication on the fuel gauge of their vehicles about 10 years ago as a helpful reminder of which side the fuel filler in located. It is pointed out in the Owner's Guides.

I had no idea. Going out to check mine now to see if it's right.
Well the nozzle is on the right hand side of the pump on my gauge which is the same side as the filler cap, but, the nozzle points to the left.
