Clean your toilet as often as you feel that it needs it, but bleach it as little as possible. Bleach doesn't clean anything, it only sanitizes, not to mention that it stinks and is bad for everyone and everything. Use a toilet brush and some soap the rest of the time. I keep a toilet brush next to the toilet and every day or two I put some dish soap in the bowl and scrub. If you don't want to scrub every day, then try some of the other users' suggestions. There are all kinds of products you can use that will make cleaning easier, faster, or less urgent.
Note: If you have a septic tank you should use very little bleach. About a capful at most. There are good bacteria in the septic tank that help break down all the nasties and the bleach will kill them if you use to much. You should also check to make sure any other cleaning products you use are "septic safe."

Once a week is sufficient to clean toilets!! But for bleaching?? this depends on what other cleaners you might be using.
Do not ever put chlorine bleach in a toilet that has one of those cleaning and freshening tabs in it.
I use Lysol Bowl Cleaner!! It sanitizes and cleans all at the same time. You can use one of the in tank smell good cleaners and still use the Lysol once a week.
Use rubber gloves and wipe down all surfaces with thinned Lysol. Do not let your dog drink from his favorite watering place while doing any cleaning in and around it.

I do janitorial work. I would dilute the bleach with water then use it on the toilet. In my own home I usually clean my toilets once a week. Most of the time I use a couple of products one is OdaBan. It is a general cleaner. It disinfects and is a good deodorizer. Some hospitals use this products. Sometimes I use baking soda combine with apple cider vinegar to get the toilet bowl clean.

It all depends on you, really. Some people will give a little dash of bleach every time they go but if you relly want it that way, go out and get one of those things that hangs in the back of the toilet tank and releases the clean on a flush. Bleash can irritate the eyes if overused and you have no need for such things, when trying to go potty.

Some toilet manufacturers advise against bleach use (one of ours is "Standard" brand and specifically said "no bleach")and will void warranty if bleach is used. Use a bleach free cleaner deigned specifically for toilets or use a disposable cleaner that you flush after use. If you have pets, do not use any toxic cleaners. As to frequency of cleaning...as needed...give it a good brush and clean once a week.

Don't. Use proper toilet cleaner.
Before that use a good toilet brush.
Bleach does not remove scale.
A good clean once a day should be sufficient.

heres a funny true story actually, my friend came over 2days ago we cooked and ate dinner, tiger shrimp stirfry with couse couse and a salad with cranraisins and feta and peacans it was really good, after we went for a walk on the beach and watched a movie. She told me she has herpies and is really confused and its affecting her mentally emotionally ect... I didnt know how to respond or what to say even (that never happens to me) but wouldnt you know after she used my toilet and left I dumped the BIGGEST BUCKET OF BLEACH on my toilet and let it sit there all nite long... Just goes to show you never can tell, and if you are thinking about these things it probably is better to bleach your toilet more often that not beacause a wondering mind is not a thing you can just turn off
