along with timing, it also depends on location. different locations hold different living values. say if you go to a conservative, traditional community, you can expect to see that virginity is still highly prized than those not. so, for example, you cannot really say guys today (very general) prefer virgins. at the same time, there would also be men who prefer experienced woman. there's no sure statistical proof saying one is more or less respected because there are so many determining factors to go with it.

I grew up in a Christian home and attended a Christian school for most of my education, so that of course influenced what I think.

All I can say is that my new wife and I had no regrets, both being virgins when we got married. We don't have to explain any past relationships or mistakes. We don't have any lingering thoughts of infidelity, since we know we both had the self-control not to do anything.

Its sad that virginity is valued so little, or that it is mocked today. Self-control should always be valued. With all the pressures out there to have sex, it takes a strong person not to.

I'm sad to say that even in a Christian environment or school, there are those who still place those pressures or those who give in, though they know better.

It is valued by mothers and fathers, because it keeps their children safe from at least part of the hurtfull things that can happen.
It should be valued by young men and women both because it shows a certain self esteem lacking in those who need to find 'love' or social acceptance in sexual act.
However, it's not the be all or end all.
A lady can be a whore. And a whore can be a lady. That has to do with ethics, self respect and respect for others, ect. And has nothing to do with virginity.

As an almost 50 year old, I still have very old fashioned traditional values. I would dearly love to think that it is still and will always be as valued as it has been. Unfortunately to the young people of today, the media seems to hype the fact that "everyone" is doing it and that if you are not-you are a freak. I commend the young people who stand strong in their belief that it is a treasure to be saved for the right time. Not just a burden to get rid of so you can enjoy life.

I do not think it's as respected as it used to be. Way back when, being a virgin and getting married that way was the way it was supposed to be. If you slept with someone prior to a marriage it was a sin and you were frowned upon.

Now a days, if male or female is a virgin people think that that person can't get someone while the virgin may have values that no one else understands.

Honestly, who are we to judge. I personally wished I would have waited. Having sex before marriage hurt more than anyone knows. I love my daughter but I wasn't able to raise her by myself when I left an abusive relationship. If I would have held off and not slept with him I would have grown up a lot more and understood a lot more.

I praise anyone who still holds off until later in life before having sex. God Bless if you do and can.

Now being a virgin is like a curse for kids. It should be something we prize, instead it ends up being something we get rid of so we won't have to worry about it anymore. I don't think many guys or girls value virginity anymore. Its almost like the norm, if you aren't having sex then you're "abnormal." Parents would like their children to wait until marriage but sadly most of them are unable to communicate with their children about sex so their children will do it anyway.

I would say that virginity should be valued and respected but you'd have to ask teens to find out what they really think.

It should be highly respected, unfortunately, its pretty much laughed at now! Which sucks, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! You definitely won't get pregnant before you are ready! That is a BIG plus.

Well i'm a 21 year old virgin and waiting but i must say that its not important today as it was in the past...now it totally depends on the religion. They have strict rules regarding it. to me guys dont really care if your a virgin or not these days...or anyone. it all depends on how you were raised.

As long as you Value yourself that's all that matters

*Mom's and Dad's want there kids to be virgins forever!!
*Men like the thought but usually it freaks them out because they don't want that huge commitment.
*Girls should do what makes them feel comfortable and be happy with themselves - -
