Someone sent me a 'Thank You' gift card - the gift card itself says it's for $50 (I called the 1-800 number and checked the balance, it's $50) But on the insert the person who sent me the gift card wrote $100 for the balance of the card.
Here's where I'm torn.
What if she paid $100 and she only received $50, shouldn't she know she's missing $50 somewhere? But what if she accidentally wrote $100 when she meant to write $50? How do you bring this up without seeming ungrateful? I don't know this person very well at all but I know that if I paid $100 for a gift card and they only got 1/2 of that, I'd want to know.....anyone have any tips?

Yes, it does sound like an awkward situation. You could send her a thank-you note which says, "Thank-you so much for the $50 gift card to XXX." Nothing really wrong with that - it might sound a little bit odd mentioning the amount, but at least it will alert her if she thought she spent $100 on it.

I'm with Silk...maybe she bought a $100 gift card for her husband or some other family member and accidentally wrote the wrong amount on yours. It's probably more a clerical error on her part.
Either way, I'd say she is far from cheap, therefore she isn't trying to short change you. Thank her for her generosity and leave it at that.

If you don't know her very well I say leave it alone and enjoy the $50 she gave you. My guess would be that it was an error in her writing it, if she doesn't know you very well why would she spend $100 on you? I've never heard of someone overpaying for a gift card.

I would go ahead and ask her -- $50 is a lot of money! --, but stress that you wanted to make sure SHE got her full amount. Really stress the fact that you hoped they weren't cheating HER and on and on...don't say, "How come I only got $50 when it says $100?" or something like that.

i would call her and say something like "hey, thanks so much for the $50 gift card" that way you are working in the amount with the thank you

That ones got awkward all over it probably wouldn’t mention it but if we did we would just be blunt and stumble though it

just tell her what you have written here, you want to make sure she wasn't ripped off by $50, sure she'll understand.

Just say "Thanks for the 50 dollar gift card!" and maybe she'll take a hint.

All I would do is ask her, and let her know you are confused. Play it casual.
