This is a interesting question so I have a few ideas, opinions and commits. First, there is the moral issue, should we as a society promote this life style, with the decline of self respect and self image this would impact our children both male and female. Then there is exploitation, with all the exploitation already out there when it is illegal could you imagine how prolific it would be if prostitution was legal, look how many issues we run into the “legal” porn trade with minors, runaways, involuntary subjects etc. Third there is no way we can test enough or insure that any test for sexually transmitted disease is A) being done correctly and B) being done honestly. Sure there would be a few small gains such as a sin tax and a way to control the sex trade (somewhat) by zoning and licensing but this by no means out-ways the risks and the detriment to society, our children and community. There are many countries such as Amsterdam, Germany and Thailand that have legal brothels that have met with limited success but have also experienced the dark side of the trade, besides the United States already has legal prostitution in Nevada, that has not eliminated the illegal sex trade nor has it benefited the state or local government with any windfall of tax revenue. In short nobody wants this in there community, nor do they want there children being involved is such an industry, it already exists on a limited basis which has not contributed in any notable manor to the community economically or socially. Prostitution should not be legalized as it does not work as a legal entity there will always be an illegal underground that would then proliferate into our daily life if legalized.

Spreading disease should be the main topic. If you want to throw a curve in there, pornography is sold in stores and is taxed, prostitution is not taxed, because you can get it on the street. The government would want their cut, but there wouldn't be any way for the government to know exactly how many people she was with.

The only reason I can think of is the chance of pregnancy. But even that can be removed if prostitutes are required to have their tubes tied, or some other form of sterilization. I guess you could argue the moral issues, but not everyone agrees on what is moral.

Its dumb why paid sex is illegal in the first place. But a majority of crime happens to prostitutes like kidnapping and murder unlike porn stars. It creates a market of cruelty towards another human being. It passes along disease. And in a way..it is unwanted sex so that violates the woman who resorts to it for X-reasons. I can think of more but I'm tired of thinking.

spreads diseases, including to innocent spouses.
Since HIV/AIDS is still long term fatal this is a serious health concern.
Check the life expectancy of Dominican prostitutes working in Haiti for details. Look for "wasting disease" since they're afraid or unlikely to get HIV testing.
