I heard it was as harmful as lookinf at the sun. I think that is not true, but them again I used to tell my children not to sit to close to the T.V. that they would go blind. T.V. was in black and white and new back then.

I have this little warning reminder that tells me to look away from the screen and take a break. I tend to look at the key board when I type even though I know where the keys are. So I would think there must be something to that Not looking to long at the computer screen, but I don't know if it is as dangerous as the sun. I think most people naturally look away when their eyes tire or get tearful from the strain. The body tends to take care of itself.

Hi. Staring at the Sun will damage your retina in a short time. The monitor is not bright enough to damage your eyes, but even reading for long periods will cause some eye strain.

I know that when I look at the computer screen all day - every day, as I do for work, it really makes my eyes tired and sore. I have to get up and do something else every so often. I also have to remember to blink more than usual so my eyes don't dry out. It can't be very good for your eyes when it is done in excess.

I don't think it is any near as harmful as sun light. Take several breaks. Look away and blink several times.

Many factors involved, such as how long you sit at the computer (take a break or look away periodically), your refresh rate (the higher the better), and the brightness/contrast of the monitor.
