I recently started hearing a noise come from my car.

First to describe the noise, it sounds like a screech, like something is spinning. I cant really describe it, so dont judge the problem off that. I didn't hear this annoying noise at all, untill i had my ignition timing set to lower to pass smog, i only heard the noise rarely... VERY rarely. I dont ever hear the noise when im idleing on a red light or when i start my car. I only hear it when im moving, BUT i dont hear it anymore if i tap on the breaks.

My car is also due for an oil change, i driven it a good 2.5k miles already since its last... Could that be the problem? Its super annoying, you can almost hear it through music if i play it low enough.

Thanks!

its a 92 protoge so its fairly old. What are the "pads" you are speaking of? This problem is in no way related to oil?

get your pads, rotors, and calipers checked ... how old is the car and how long has it been since the pads were changed?

if the noise stops when you tap your brakes then it more then likely your brakes. more then likely time to replace the pads.
