Why do people put so much importance to money and material objects?

I know people who look up to people who have a lot of money and nice expensive things; and they look down on people who don't.

What's the deal?

It i really about a person's make up and what's inside..not the external things

Some people are just naturally jealous of everyone else & what they have, my sister-in-law is like that, it drives me nuts!
