Proving a negative is a logical impossibility, but theists are always asking this same question...i wonder why.

I'm not an atheist or a theist. What would disproving the idea of god through argument do? Darwin and Freud were disproved through argument and still have a robust following.
You believe in the term gravity but have no way of showing me a piece of gravity. You can only show me the effects of gravity. Magnetism, weak/strong force, etc. are all just symbols of something that can not be proven in any other way than observing their effects. You have absolutely no way of proving or disproving something that has no direct influence on anything else other than belief as the idea of god does. There is no direct occurrence that can be interpreted as 'from god' or not as that requires 'faith' and the system of belief to back it up. It would be absurd to say that it requires faith to claim that objects falling to the surface of the earth are responding to the effects of gravity. It's clearly visible and universally observable that the object is coming back down when thrown up. What ever you call it does not change the occurrence. Throw the object up 1 billion times and it will fall to the surface.

How many times has 'an act of god' in 'the faith' been misinterpreted by various observers? How many 'acts of god' have been recanted? (1000 AD thousands of the 'faithful' were in 'chiliastic panic' over the impending disasters coming per Revelations). There have been no universally observed and repeatable 'acts of god' in the history of the western faith. The eastern faith has done no better.

BTW - Ezekiel was using prophetic language pertaining to the rise and fall of a kingdom (i.e. Isreal) not individual people in that OT quote.

The Geocentric theory of the universe did not need to be disproved, we just found a better theory, heliocentricism, to take its place. It was only much later when Newtonian mechanics rendered geocentricism mathematically impossible that it was disproved, but most scientists had believed in Heliocentricism since Johannes Kepler.

For the same reason, I see no need to disprove God when I have a much better working theory of the universe. You can keep your theory of God. And you can be happy living in stone huts and fearing everything that might threaten your supposed "truth". The rest of us have a universe to explore, and only one life to do it in.

@ Lion of Judah - You use very fancy rhetoric for someone with such a limited understanding of science. Prove the existence of God using the scientific method, the tried and true process for scientific discovery, and all atheists, myself included, will rescind their atheism and convert to whatever religion that the experiment proved God to be.

The only person who needs a paradigm shift is the person who thinks that Bronze age shamans had a better understanding of the universe than modern scientists.

I don't call myself an atheist, but neither do I profess a belief in God. Anyway, I recognize that God cannot be disproved, and I have never heard anybody claim that they could disprove God.

I am comfortable knowing that I will return to dust when I die. Are you?

The only way to disprove god is to show how one isn't needed to explain the universe. I think this has been reasonably accomplished already, and I think it will get even more conclusive in the future.

Furthermore, it is not possible to prove a negative. The burden of proof is on the one who makes the positive claim. In other words, YOU have to prove that god exists. Until you do, s/he doesn't.

Sometimes atheist assert that there is no proof that God exists. The only problem is that an atheist cannot logically make that claim.

In order to state that there is no proof for God's existence, the atheist would have to know all alleged proofs that exist in order to then state that there is no proof for God's existence. But, since he cannot know all things, he cannot logically state there is no proof for God's existence.

At best, an atheist can only state that of all the alleged proofs he has seen thus far, none have worked. He could even say that he believes there are no proofs for God's existence. But then, this means that there is the possibility that there is a proof or proofs out there and that he simply has not yet encountered one.

Nevertheless, if there was a proof that truly did prove God's existence, would the atheist be able to accept it given that his presuppositions are in opposition to the existence of God? In other words, given that the atheist has a presuppositional base that there is no God, in order for him to accept a proof for God's existence, he would have to change his presuppositional base. This is not easy to do and would involve a major paradigm shift in the belief structure of the atheist. Therefore, an atheist is presuppositionally hostile to any proofs for God's existence and is less likely to be objective about such attempted proofs.

The lack of the evidence of a god is reason enough to not believe.
You can't disprove something for which there is no evidence in the first place.
Its like saying "Disprove the flying spaghetti monster!"
You can't disprove it but theres no rational thinking in believing in it for that fact alone.

I am relieved of having to disprove god - he is disproved already, much earlier than when he was declared dead.

And Hey! - don't expect any answer from 'my' group of atheists, for, like 'your' god, it does not exist. We atheists remain individuals in thought and in life; we are not amassed together in a herd becoming the blind following the powerful.

God gives proof of himself when the time is right for each individual to receive it. When that happens you will know it and you will see changes in your life for the better. When one has had that "light bulb" moment where one suddenly has the realisation "Hey, He really DOES exist" often triggered by a certain event or experience and you sincerely accept it, the proof keeps coming more and more and it's tailor made proof especially for you and only YOU will know when that happens and it is often hard to explain your experience to others who have not had it, and not everyone will have it. I personally have had so many experiences that prove without a doubt that He exists and when I explain to someone all I have is My Word to go on as proof, and people who really know me know I am not a liar, but a stranger is more likely to dismiss what I have to say. I can't make people believe me, but even if there was one person out of a whole bunch who would maybe consider the possibility of God's existence after hearing about my personal proof, and go away thinking "Hmmm, maybe.... because if I said that's what happened to me then that's what happened. I don't have a video of my proof only my word.

AND Science will never, ever, ever be able to prove God's existence. Our World and Universe and Life is actual physical proof of God but Science is not satisfied with that, they want to be able to capture him in an experiment, or mathematical equation or a demonstration........." and now we will demonstrate "God" to you"......and then if Science proves it, then it MUST be true.......but that will NEVER happen.

God did come to prove himself to us but at that time it was done en-masse, even then people couldn't accept him but there were enough people who DID accept and hence the Bible was born as a record of His Word and existence. Although the Bible has lost alot through translation and misinterpretation throughout the ages, enough of the Truth has survived to this day. God is now introducing Himself on a personal one to one basis and eventually whether it be in this lifetime or another everyone shall have their proof. Yes....all those Atheists shall have their turn. Everyone finds out for sure after they die anyway.

One cannot demand proof and expect to get it, one can ask nicely and keep on asking and if you are genuine, you will get it. Keep the faith............I know from what I speak.
