I find Montreal is a difficult place to meet people, relationship wise. One of the issues when I first approach a woman here is first "Does she speak English or French?" Since a lot of people make up their mind in the first few moments of meeting you, that causes the moment of hesitation that could cause you to be ignored or overlooked.
I would not go to the bars in Montreal for a "nice guy". Most of the bar scene is try to get lucky and pick up someone for one night stands. The women are on their guard for that so a guy will really need a novel approach to break the ice, and women are not as receptive in that mode.
If I were you, I would try to get out and be active. Go out on the town with some of the people from your work that you are friends with. Let them know you are single and looking so they may have a cousin, brother, friend, etc they would introduce you to.
You can also meet nice guys at a department store, in a library, at some sort of public event such as a fair in your neighbourhood. You can even meet them at the grocery store. It may be as simple as asking a fellow shopper if he knows where you can find the chocolate for a fondue you want to make.
If you are trying to meet someone for a long-term relationship, then you might also want to try the Yahoo! Canada Personals, or a service like eHarmony. Just be prepared to have to "shop around" in those cases. These are essentially blind dates you would be going on, and it will either click or it won't.

How old are you? Are you over 18? Do you know what you are doing? You only know him for 4 weeks. So what he has pictures on his bebo? Are you sure that those are his pictures? How do you know he is not a psycho? No, you should not meet a guy off the Internet especially if you are under 18 and you only know him for 4 weeks. If you are over 18 and you really want to meet him I would suggest for you to wait for a few more months. Then you can meet him with some friends of yours. NEVER EVER meet anybody from the Internet alone, whether it is a girl or a guy. Have you not watched the news? How people get killed, get kidnapped, get raped, etc from meeting somebody off the Internet?

Well, you can meet a nice guy just about anywhere in any city, depending on the stuff you like to do. If you like skiing, head to the slopes. If you like the outdoors and its not to cold, try heading to Mont Royal. Every Sunday lots of people gather at the base of the mountain for a sort of hippy inspired gathering. If the bars are what you are into, try to head to some places on St. Laurent like Tokyo or Pistol. If you head to Crescent Street, Sir Winston Churchills is a good meeting place. Montreal is a city of lots of beautiful interesting people. They are all trying otbe found as much as you are trying to find them

Well my personal favourite is Leacock Building at McGill, but maybe that was just luck.
Edit: On reading SteveN's answer I realize that at McGill you can pretty much count on speaking English...although my husband's first language is actually French.
