Hello and I'd like to start by thanking anybody who may have some good info on what's wrong with my car. I'm a single mother so my transportation is critical at this point.

I have a 1993 Sable that's running rough, sucking down a lot of gas, and has a gassy smell when running. When accelerating, the car seems to lose power every second or so.

What could be wrong? About how much will it cost to fix? Are there any good shops in the north Atlanta area that would do this for a reasonable price?

First and foremost, put a broken-down cardboard box under the engine and look for leaks. Gas will evaporate, so if it is not raining outside, have a look under the vehicle at the fuel lines to see if there is a leak in the line. It could also be a bad fuel pump (or leaking fuel pump), which of course will need to be changed.
I am thinking that it is the fuel pump since you're description of loss of power during acceleration sounds like a lack of fuel to the injector and subsequently the engine. If you change the plugs, it may go away and it was shot plugs and over fueling of the engine.
Maybe its the ignition coils, who knows. It does have to be checked out by a technician.

Rough running, bad gas mileage, and feeling like loosing power on top of having a smell of fuel means you either have a fuel leak (common on those vehicles where the fuel lines mate the the fuel injector rail) or a bad spark plug or wire. Get a tune up done and have a mechanic check the car out, like, now. Those cars had a habit of catching on fire under the hood because of faulty fuel line connections.

Hope that helps.

in the beginning i'm no longer a specialist mechanic yet i used to be long term in the past in simple terms as gasoline injection became into being presented. i became into instructed by making use of my pal and co-worker who became right into a superb mechanic the the only element you're able to do with none gages is to alter the 02 sensor. besides the shown fact that that is no longer too high priced and on a similar time as i do no longer often carry to changing issues without understanding for optimistic in the event that they're the priority this in one exception. if the catalytic converter is clogged the engine won't start up simply by fact it could no longer breathe. it would additionally be any style of alternative issues which includes undesirable coil %., undesirable spark plug, undesirable spark plug cord. ect. the undesirable scent may well be too prosperous a mixture ie unburned gasoline. in case you in undemanding terms can no longer wait try the 02 sensor.

sounds like the air fuel mixture is off. it sounds too like its running too rich. therefore all the fuel is not being burned so that's why you re smelling it.
go get yourself a free inspection from a reputable mechanic.
Good luck.
