Sounds more like tinnitus to me.
Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is the sensation of hearing ringing, buzzing, hissing, chirping, whistling, or other sounds. Some people hear more complex sounds that vary over time. The sounds may be intermittent, continuous, or pulsating in time with the heart beat. A pulsating sound may result from a blocked artery, an aneurysm, a tumor in a vessel, or other vessel disorders..
The noise can vary in loudness. It is often worse when background noise is low, so you may be most aware of it at night when you're trying to fall asleep in a quiet room.
Although tinnitus is often associated with hearing loss, it does not cause the loss; nor does a hearing loss cause tinnitus. In fact, some people with tinnitus experience no difficulty hearing, and in a few cases they even become so acutely sensitive to sound that they must take steps to muffle or mask external noises.
Some instances of tinnitus are caused by infections or blockages in the ear, and the tinnitus often disappears once the underlying cause is treated. Frequently, however, tinnitus continues after the underlying condition is treated. In such a case, it needs to be treated. Sometimes, significant relief may be obtained by either decreasing or covering up the unwanted sound.:)

I doubt it's paranormal. I have several electronics that run pretty much continuously in my room. I have noticed that most of the time I am aware of the mechanical noise they make and if I'm not paying attention there are times I have mistaken the machine noise with a human voice. I would go to a doc and get it checked out though, especially after reading the first post. Better safe than sorry. :)

I saw a television programme recently that dealt with the topic of ghost-hunting. During the programme a group of 5 people entered an old haunted castle. They turned on their special ghostometer and got a very high paranormal reading when they were in the dungeon region of the castle. At the same time, one of the female ghost hunters experienced a ringing sound in one of her ears. I can't remember which ear it was but I do recall that she described the sound as mmmmmmmm. It was later discovered that an innocent prisoner was jailed and subsequently died in the castle. He wanted to let the world know that he was inncocent and was trying to communicate with the world through the female ghost hunter. The research team were able to use a pair of infra red plasma ear phones to translate the sound in the girls ear and they found that the ghost was saying "I am innocent, I am innocent" .... you might be receiving a paranormal signal here...

It could be several things. It could possibly be something a low humming from a waterway underground or it could be from a furnace kicking on or even from pipes in your house. One of your ears may be stronger than the other as well.
It could also be paranormal.
Your description is vauge. Where does this happen? Where do you live?
There are many possiblities.

This is not paranormal, it's abnormal--abnormal hearing. Get your hearing checked out.
