I agree that the government has it's priorities out of order. This smells of a witch hunt to me. Of all the things going on right now, a baseball player lying about taking steroids seems pretty small. If the Federal Government wants to spend tax dollars prosecuting criminals, maybe it should go after people who commit crimes that actually hurt someone. Barry Bonds may be a liar and a cheat, but why does anyone care. I think the way to hurt Bonds the worst is to quit talking about him. His ego couldn't take it.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I am convinced that the main reason why they are after Barry Bonds is because of the way he is portrayed in the media. it is no secret that Bonds hates the media and that he is extremly arrogant. This whole time Bonds has been thumbing his nose at the government going around acting like he is free and clear of all allogations. I think the Government feels like he made a fool of them through all this and him breaking the record just added salt to the wound. The last thing I do think the government has good intentions here too though. They are making an example out of him for all the younger impressionable people that could potentially take steroids in either High School or Collage and ruin there bodies. Since he is such a hated persona (especially in the media) he will make a perfect example to make for young people. The government knows the media will eat it up and get tons of press for the cause of helping out the youth of america. Not to mention the love afair of the HR record. The whole nation would love it if Bonds gets stricken from the record books mainly because people hate bonds.

Baseball generates an awful lot of revenue which means the government gets an awful lot of money for it.

Remember, they are not investigating steroids in this new saga, they are investigating lying to a grand jury and if they didn't pursue him, then someone else would be posting a question on "Why does Barry Bonds get to lie to a grand jury without any consequences"

Also, your government, as dysfunctional as it is at times is supposed to work for the people and if enough people say that steroids in baseball is negatively affecting their children, then to not do something is like saying "you elected us but we are not your representatives"

Catch 22

The obstacle is that steriod use has filtered all the way down to excessive tuition level and whos to say that core tuition youngsters will not be doing it next. Might turn out to be a national well being crisis. But should congress be involved? On the whole now not. (Nor will have to they be worried in the NFL "Spygate" thing, however Senator Arlen Spectre from Pennsylvania goes there too!)

I found out a few years back that my Representative was on the board that had a hearing where Professional athletes were questioned about steroids. I sent him a letter expressing my disdain. I am now on an e-mail list from him and for some reason have not been able to unsubscribe.
To say the least I am in your boat.
The problems in this country will always be a consequence of poor parenting.
US parents need to stop babysitting their offspring with TV. Sit down and talk with them! There is no way Barry Bonds should be a child's role model. That place should be reserved for their mother or father.
If parents spent as much time with their children as my parents did, and their parents did with them, there would be very few major domestic issues.
Kids don't respect their parents because they are too busy for them. This needs to stop.
If children do not learn to respect their parents, how can they learn to respect anyone else?
I knew drugs were not ok because my father discussed this with me. I knew steroids were bad because my father discussed this with me.
I knew unprotected sex was not ok, because my father discussed this with me.
I knew being respectful to women was the right thing, because my mother spent time with me and my father discussed this with me.
A healthy relationship between parents and their children produce healthy lives.
The government has to get involved because today's parents are not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Senator McCain's biggest concern was the youth of America. The matter of performance enhancing drugs had to be curtailed or who knows when large numbers of young kids would start using them. It's a serious health issue especially when it comes to HGH.
Remember the government became involved because baseball would do little or nothing about the matter. Do you recall after congressional pressure was applied Selig and the union's first proposal to curtail drug use was a joke at best. Then McCain started to apply pressure. In my opinion baseball was all for performance enhancing drugs because they liked the end product (i.e., offensive production).

The Government is made up of MANY different factions,,, This faction ONLY deals with Judical LAW...So is essence this group does NOT deal with terrorism, China , Oil, The border, Iran, Iraq, the border, or any items you have listed.. So my answer to you would be, Iam happy that this whole Barry Bonds chapter may come to an END soon.... And YES i do believe that he should serve some jail time,,,, if you or I LIED to a grand jury we would surely go to jail...

It's really pretty simple; The local taxpayers paid for many of the stadiums that MLB is played in and taxpayer money was used to pay for the necessary infrastructure for those stadiums and since they did it is well within the rights of their representatives to investigate what goes on in those taxpayer financed work places. Is that rational enough for you?

This shouldn't be posted here... try posting it in government and politics because you are asking what the government should be involved with, not what should baseball do...

the problem is that steriod use has filtered right down to extreme college point and whos to assert that middle college young ones is honestly no longer doing it next. ought to alter right into a countrywide well being disaster. yet could desire to congress be in contact? probable no longer. (Nor could desire to they be in contact interior the NFL "Spygate" element, yet Senator Arlen Spectre from Pennsylvania is going there too!)
