I prefer traditional names. That's the way baby name fashions are going - you either give your kid some weird made-up name or go for something great-grandmother would have approved of.

I like traditional names. I also like some not so traditional names. I am not a fan of bizarre names or names you cannot spell or pronounce, that is just hard on the kid nothing cute about it. However traditional names are making a strong comeback!

I don't get the bizarre names, or why people just can't spell their names like they are supposed to be but I think the popular names get choosen either because they've heard it so much they love it, they want to go with the trend, or they son't want a kid that has a name that everyone will make fun of.

No funky spellings in this family! No need to have children have a difficult time spelling their name or being teased. There is enough crap out there to deal with!
We have 3 sons: Matthew Karl, Marcus Joseph, and Luke Andrew....if we have another child, it will be either John Edward or Mary Elizabeth.
Traditional names are so much better. We chose Matthew for husband's brother Karl is daddy's middle name. Couldn't agree on one for middle guy Liked the name, and it's a gospel, Joseph for my dad. Luke after a great monk we know Andrew for husband's other brother. John to complete the "gospels" Edward for a great priest we know. Mary different version of my name as well as the Blessed Mother Elizabeth for the Blessed Mother's cousin.

What kinda whackos are Mr. and Mrs. Balls when they decide to name their son Harry, seriously, who the Hell thinks that kinda crap is funny?
I know some real names that are very disturbing that make me wonder what the Hell their parents were smoking.
Anyways, the " exotic " names are just a stupid trend. Screw Fabio, Antiquette, and Riannaloria. Give me a plain old Bob and Jane any day. I'd prefer something I can actually pronounce.
Imagine some kid with a 20-letter exotic name in school who can't even pronounce, let alone spell his name right.
There was a bash quote from bash.org that was a funny example of this kinda thing. Here's a copy/pasted chat line directly from bash.org.
I ran across the worst named person in the world today...
I'm sitting in the waiting room at my doctor's office, waiting for a physical before I go off to college in a few weeks.
I'm a little early and there are other people in the waiting room so when the nurse comes out to call the next person I'm pretty sure it's not me.
She walks out of the hallway, looks down at her clipboard and immediately turns around and goes back behind the door.
She's obviously talking to some of the other nurses.
When she comes back about 30 seconds later, she looks at the clipboard, takes a deep breath and says: "Shithead O'Neal, the doctor's able to see you now."
A large black woman stands up quickly and yells in a surprsingly stereotypical black women voice "IT'S PRONOUNCED SHAW-THEED!"
She storms off after the nurse, who is apologizing very loudly and everyone in the waiting room just looks at each other and exchange a few laughs and snickers.

I don't know ... I don't like traditional names .. ie Christopher.. because everyone has them. My son is a Christopher because of his father and grandfather. I have a traditional name.. Jessica.. which was the most popular name three years running around the time I was born..
I name my kids by Italian/Spanish/Latin traditional names. My oldest is Felicia, youngest daughter is Teresa .. and I am currently pregnate.. either using Dante for a boy or Giavanna for a girl.
My girls are the only ones in their grade, sometimes the school that have their names, vrs my son who everyone is named Chris..

Dont get me wrong. I like traditional names... all of my cousins are named Haley Anne, Edward Zachary, Mary Marie, Allyson Lauren, Robert Joseph, William David, Abby Caitlin, Lynn Alexandra, Christopher Thomas, and Timothy Michael. So for the most part I have grown up with Traditional names. But going through school, my class mates were Mary, David, Lynn, Allyson, Robert, Timmy, Tommy, Haley, etc. It just everyone I know has thoughs kind of names. So, I like more "different" names that arent so popluar... but not completely bazaar.

I'm a male and grew up in the 1950's and 60's with the first name Jan. The teasing and bullying throughout school, especially during my younger years, was unmerciful.
Stick with John or Mary or Steven or Jill. Nothing at all wrong with the traditional names.

I love traditional names. I agree that the bizarre spellings only will torment a child through their life. The unique names are truly annoying and very frustrating.

I like a LOT of strong traditional names, but I do tend to get tired of the same ones over & over. BUT I also do not like the really weird far-out made-up names that kids grow up hating! I feel sorry for those kids & I know they get teased at school. (really weird spellings are bad too)
