It depends on what context you are applying the term to and what activity withing that context.
Examples:
I am not perverted for putting pickles on grilled cheese! - No you are not
I'm not perverted for bringing a cactus and 3 bags of marshmallows to bed with me - Yes you are. In fact you're VERY perverted.

I guess it really just depends on the content of why they are saying it. I have believed people, some people or joking around, others drunk, and some are really perverted and I just try to stay away.

I guess it would depend on the situation. If it was someone I knew and they were explaining a bad joke they made, then yes I would believe them.
If it was a stranger whom I just met, no way in heck would I believe them.
Now if it was the neighbors kid coming out from behind the tool shed in the yard leading a sheep, then I would most likely think he was a perv. LOL

Hmmm, perverted means different from the norm. I think we are all different from the norm in one way or another, therefore we are not perverted are we ? Hell, I'm confused now ! :o)
