Shellay Ward was 7 years old, and weighed only 9 kilograms when she died recently. Her parents were "known to the Department for Community Services". There is now a warrant out for their arrest and they are missing. This is the second case in recent weeks of at risk children being brought to the Department's attention, but nothing been done to remove them or keep them safe. The first child was 2 years old and found stuffed into a suitcase and thrown into a lake.
How can a 7 year old child starve to death and not go to school and no one notices? What can we, as a society, do to prevent more tragedies like this?
RIP Dean Shillingworth (aged 2) and Shellay Ward (aged 7).

Please don't get me started...!!
People like that should be locked away in a room and treated the same way they treated their victim until they die. That's all I'm saying.

Well being 14 years old, you cannot work after 7 pm if the laws are the same everywhere. You could get a job on the weekends for 8 hours a day making minimum wage (worst case) and make about half of what you need. I also came from a low income family, so I know how this is. I needed money really bad as a teenager to go to a camp, so I asked everyone I knew to save aluminum cans for me. I know it sounds crazy... but I actually got a good amount for them. I think recycling centers up north give something like 5 cents a can the last time I checked. There is also help for low income families out there, you just have to dig around for it. Ask your counselors at school about grants and fund raisers. You sound like a good student, and I am sure that they would be happy to help you. Other than that, do you have any aunts, uncles grandparents that could let you borrow some money? Get a summer job and pay them back. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Well, she children were home schooled, supposedly because of bullies, and since Shellay was autistic so she didn't have many friends and the family had just moved, so I can see how it could go unnoticed, but poor children! That's just awful! Rest in peace, little ones.

The parents did not have enough income to contribute to DCS/DSS so they just ignored the children's situations.
As sick as it sounds it is true.
DCS/DSS have "numbers" to keep.
How many children in their custody means more Federal and local financial contributions and IF the parents of these children can pay the extra 'child support' --- that is just icing on their cakes.
They REALLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN !!!!
OK---ONE MORE TIME ----
DCS / DSS DOES NOT CARE FOR THE WELFARE OF THE CHILDREN !!!!

RIP :::: Distressing that human life, minimum 'creature comfort' and needs of children, are considered so insignificant by a few people in parts of the world! What we can do, is to ppersevere in our efforts to indoctrinate, educate people on the principle of service to needy people, and children, and the kindness and consideration they deserve!

I know, it's horrible it makes me sick.
But hey, I got sent back home from the hospital covered in green bruises back to my family home when I was little, after I tried to overdose, so meh, you know, I don't have too much faith in the system lol.
Although, no, it's not a laughing matter, it's crazy, how can DCS have not noticed that?!?! It's crazy! You've got to be blind not to notice a child who is locked in their room and weighs only 9kg!
